Meet Patty, a cancer patient who discovered scalp cooling following a conversation with a friend in California. Patty did struggle with the scalp cooling process, as she tells us “I thought it would be easier each time, but as soon as I put that cap on, I was reminded of how cold it really was.”

Often, when patients are going through chemotherapy treatment, many can feel the need to wear a head covering to maintain their identity. However, due to her hair retention, Patty didn’t feel the need to do this.

Asked whether she has any scalp cooling haircare tips for other cap users, Patty suggests “colouring your hair before the allowed time, if you colour your hair.”

When we asked Patty how she feels about her scalp cooling experience, she explains that her daughters, who were leaving for college, were reluctant to leave her prior to her surgery and subsequent treatment. Patty was, of course, keen to maintain an image of strength for her family, as they went on to pursue the opportunities they had worked so hard to attain. Overall, Patty feels that pursuing scalp cooling helped her look healthy on every Facetime call and every college visit, thereby reducing her daughters’ anxiety.

When asked if she would recommend scalp cooling to others, Patty says, “I would and I do”. Despite being told that scalp cooling wouldn’t work with her chemotherapy regimen, Patty is pleased to say that it did work for her.
