Meet Bronwyn, a breast cancer patient who discovered scalp cooling via talking to a close friend and information received from her local cancer centre. Like many patients who are contemplating scalp cooling, Bronwyn had some questions about its efficacy. However, she says that her scalp cooling experience was exactly as she had expected it to be. While the scalp cooling process has been shown to help patients retain their hair during treatment, Bronwyn did feel the need to wear a wig or head covering throughout her experience.
Asked whether she has any scalp cooling hair care tips, Bronwyn says that the use of argan oil and natural hair products helped improve her hair quality during her treatment journey. Wearing a silk cap at night also helped her to maintain a strong sense of identity. Reflecting on her scalp cooling experience, Bronwyn says that the main reason she chose to scalp cool was to stay in control of her own body and feel more like herself. Asked if she would recommend scalp cooling to others, she is unequivocal with her response of “definitely”.
