How did you find out about scalp cooling?
I wasn't aware of this treatment prior my diagnosis. When I knew I had cancer I had to get a CT scan to see where we were at and while I was talking to the nurse giving me contrast I said to her that I was afraid of my kids looking at me bald and she told me that there was cold capping option, so she was the one that introduced me to this.
How was your scalp cooling experience as you progressed through chemotherapy?
It was amazing, super smooth and very easy.
I was scared because I've read that some people had headaches etc but it was very comfortable for me
How did you want to best be supported? Who did you find the most supportive to you?
My husband, parents, and best friends.. they were amazing during this days and I can't thank them enough.
Did you know that access to scalp cooling is changing and that insurance reimbursement for the treatment is now a reality?
Its amazing, I believe this should be 100% reimbursed.. its horrible going through treatment and losing hair feels like losing yourself too .. so your fighting for your life and also not looking like yourself in the mirror, its HARD.
What words of encouragement would you offer to anyone contemplating scalp cooling?
Everything is going to be ok, its a HORRIBLE thing to go through might as well go through this feeling good and feel pretty. Its so worth it even if you end up losing a lot of hair, the folicules don't die so it growths very fast. I remember looking at all the hair I was losing and thinking what's the point of cold capping but IT SOOO WORTH IT.
