PICS Achievement Award

 

Presented annually since 1997, the PICS Achievement Award is widely considered the most prestigious award in the field of interventional (minimally invasive) treatment of congenital heart disease (CHD). This award is presented to recognize a distinguished career in research, education and patient care. Awardees have demonstrated vision and global leadership in the CHD interventional community. The award is made by a committee of the field’s elite leaders.

PICS Dr. Charles S. Kleinman Scientific Scholarship Award

 

At the PICS Annual Symposium PICS recognizes original scientific work in CHD/ACHD interventional cardiology. A $5,000 USD scholarship is awarded for the best submitted scientific abstract. Applicants should submit their abstracts via the standard abstract submission process and then request they be considered for the Kleinman Scientific Scholarship Award. The top three abstracts will be chosen to present their abstracts orally at Symposium, with one then selected for the final prize.

If you want your submitted abstract to be considered for the Kleinman Scientific Scholarship, please email your request with a paragraph outlining how the scholarship would be used to further your research. Please forward this request and written paragraph to Ms. Michaeleen Wallig at mwallig@CHDinterventions.org. (Contact Ms. Wallig for more information and the annual due date.)

PICS Young Leadership Recognition Program

 

This program is designed to support younger interventionalists in the first five years following formal training. One winner annually will receive faculty status at the PICS Symposium, along with a travel stipend, free Symposium registration and accommodations.

Applicants will need to submit their CV, letters of support from two senior CHD/ACHD interventional cardiologists, and one typed (A4 or 8.5 x 11 typed page outlining professional goals and what your participation would bring to the meeting. PICS Founder Award

To commemorate the first decade of The PICS Foundation, in 2006 Dr. William Hillenbrand, a PICS Symposium Course Co-Director since the first Symposium in 1997, presented a special PICS Founder Award to Dr. Hijazi. PICS, marking its first decade, had become the premier international forum for the advancement and teaching of interventional procedures for congenital heart disease.

Sir Shakeel Qureshi, MD

2022

Professor Qureshi was made a Knight Bachelor by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to paediatric cardiology and charity. Professor Qureshi is a globally respected consultant paediatric cardiologist working at Evelina London.

Professor Qureshi, who has four children and nine grandchildren, said:

When I got the email I read it several times before I responded. It was a shock and I still haven’t got over it. To have somebody appreciate your work, values and contributions is an amazing feeling, especially when I look back at where I started. My parents moved from Pakistan to the UK in the 60s and it is their hard work and sacrifices and my specialty that got me here.

Kamel Shibbani, MD

2025

  • Dr. Shibbani was recognized as an emerging leader in his field. Specifically, he was named to Cardiovascular Business’s “40 Under 40” Class of 2025. This honor recognizes individuals who are making a significant impact on cardiovascular health at a young age. Dr. Shibbani is a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics-cardiology at the University of Iowa.
