Bramble Blooms Quilt Challenge was started by Audrey in October 2023. I have long been a follower of Audrey’s Quilty Folk style so I was very happy to join along.

We started by pulling a group of older fabrics from our stash. These fabrics would be used to create three quilts.
In the first round, Audrey gave us some pretty specific prompts. It was a good way to begin. I drew out some fun flower shapes for my center.

I ended up rounding off those points – I love appliqué but those sharp edges felt like a set up for frustration. As we moved out, new prompts were offered with just enough direction to get my creative energy going. I ended up adding birds, words and some pieced blocks. This was a very fun quilt to build.

BB#1 is basted and ready for hand quilting.

For BB#2, Audrey suggested we use some of the elements from our first quilt. I got started and thought I had a pretty good idea of where to go but after a time, I had to set this top aside, it just wasn’t speaking to me.

Then I had an ah ha moment at the end of December and a revised idea began to bubble up. In the end, I was very happy with my BB#2 quilt top.

January 2025 – Audrey gave us some direction for BB#3 that was a bit looser than the first two rounds. I thought I might abandon my original fabric pull and try some different colors. Last week, I pulled out some orphan blocks and inspiration took over. Best of all, these blocks have let me return to those original fabrics.

So here is my start on BB#3. I have a few goals:
1. Use fabrics from the original pull
2. Try to use up some of those fabrics
3. Play with more traditional blocks but make them a bit wonky
4. Add more words
The current plan is to have a finished top by the end of May. Just in time for another Quilt in Ordinary Time. But that is a post for another page.
