Our Services
Your remodel is planned down to every detail upfront, so the build goes smoothly and turns out exactly as you envisioned.
Your kitchen is redesigned and rebuilt so the space works for the way your family uses it.
Your entire home is designed and remodeled as one cohesive project, so every space connects and nothing feels out of place.
Your addition is designed and built to feel like it was always part of your home, not something tacked on later.
A look at how we reimagine the homes we work on — no moving required.
Our Difference
We find the space you didn’t know you had. Most remodelers see your home and only think addition. We see all the possibilities.
We start with your floor plan and figure out the right solution for your family — whether that’s a smarter layout, a full remodel, or an addition. Most families are surprised by what’s already possible. Some genuinely need more space, and we’ll tell you that too.
You see exactly what you’re getting before a single wall comes down. Full floor plans, 3D renderings, and a video walkthrough of your finished space, all created before construction begins.
Our tradespeople have worked with Charleene’s Houses for 17 to 20 years. They know our standards, they respect our clients, and they show up. That consistency is something you can’t find with a company that’s hiring new crews every season.
We’re a woman-led firm, and we think that matters. We think about the morning school rush, where the backpacks land, and how the kitchen connects to the rest of the house. We design for how families actually live, not how a showroom says they should.
Our clients say it best.
Every project follows our proven four-step process. No surprises, no scope creep, no guesswork.
Discovery Call
We start at your home, discussing your daily routines, lifestyle, and frustrations. We listen deeply, take careful notes, and document your priorities so our design approach genuinely addresses your real-life challenges. This often reveals possibilities you might not have imagined.
Design
We develop custom floorplans, elevations, and 3D renderings based on your ideas, and we revise until the plans align perfectly with your vision. Every material, finish, and layout decision gets made on paper, before construction begins.

Build
We finalize your budget, pull permits, and get to work. Your project manager is on site every day to keep things moving and address any issue that comes up. We keep the space clean and organized throughout, so your home stays livable.
Final Walkthrough
We walk through your renovated space together and take care of any finishing touches. You don’t sign off until everything is exactly right.
“We had a wonderful experience with Charleene and team. We had been planning this project for years, but couldn't quite figure out how to best stay in budget and configure the space to work for us. Within 10 minutes of meeting with Charleene, she solved this for us! A way to have what we wanted AND remain within our budget.”

Every project is different, which is why we don’t throw out numbers before we understand your home and your goals. What we can tell you is that we design to your budget, not above it, and we’re upfront about realistic ranges from our very first conversation. No bait-and-switch. No surprises buried in the fine print.
We handle everything. Our team includes in-house designers who are part of every project from day one. You’re not managing a dozen different people. You have one team, one process, and one point of contact who knows your project inside and out.
Before any construction begins, we create a detailed design plan for your project. This includes space planning, custom blueprints, elevations, 3D renderings, and material selections, all revised until the plans align perfectly with your vision. The design agreement fee is typically $950 to $5,000 depending on the job type and size.
That’s actually the first thing we figure out together. In most cases, families have more usable space than they realize. Charleene’s specialty is reconfiguring existing layouts to give you what you need without the cost of building out. We’ll walk your home, look at your floor plan, and tell you honestly whether an addition is necessary or whether a smarter layout gets you there for less.
It depends on the scope. We’ll give you a realistic timeline during our design process, before you ever sign a construction agreement. And once we’re in your home, we communicate with you every single week. You’ll never wonder what’s happening or when.
We primarily serve Northern Baltimore County, including Towson, Ruxton, Lutherville, Timonium, Phoenix, Cockeysville, and Reisterstown. If you’re nearby and you’re not sure if we cover your area, just reach out. We’re happy to have that conversation.
We’re a woman-led team, and we think that matters. We think about how families actually live. We don’t build for the Instagram photo. We build for the Tuesday morning when you’re late for school drop-off, and everything still needs to work. Since starting this company, we haven’t had anyone leave us a negative review. We’re proud of that.
You schedule a call with us. We’ll talk about your project, your budget, and whether we’re the right fit. We believe in being honest from the start. If we’re not the right team for you, we’ll tell you. But if we are, you’ll know it from the very first conversation.
Meet Charleene
Charleene Doverspike started renovating homes in 1987 on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. She moved to Baltimore in 1995 and became a licensed contractor in 1999. Charleene’s Houses is a woman-led firm based in Phoenix, Maryland.
Our team of designers, project managers, and long-term trade partners are the people we trust most in this business. We take on a small number of whole-home and major remodeling projects each year, because that’s the only way to do this work at the level our clients deserve. We’re not the biggest firm in the area. We don’t want to be. We want to be the one you call when it has to be right.
Every project starts the same way. We listen first, discuss what is not working for your home, and use our magic to reimagine a space that works for you.
“We don’t do ugly. We never have.”
— Charleene Doverspike, Founder
