Types of Facilities
Bringing comfort, connection, and confidence to others through compassionate therapy visits.
Addiction and Recovery
Visits reduce anxiety, depression, and cravings for residents, creating a safe space to feel supported, understood, and at peace when learning how to cope with emotions in sobriety.
Adult Day Programs
Visits boost mental, emotional, and physical well being for seniors, reducing loneliness and anxiety, while improving mood, social interaction, memory, and motivation for activity.
Colleges or Universities
Visits destress students during exams and provide mental health wellness by increasing oxytocin and reducing cortisol. Visits can be indoors or outdoors.
Courthouses
Visits reduce anxiety for judges, attorneys, prosecutors, court staff and surrogate offices, promoting emotional regulation and moments of calm in a high-pressure environment.
Corporations or Businesses
Visits boost morale for employees and create a relaxed atmosphere to reduce stress, while improving well being, and enhancing productivity and retention.
Hospitals
Visits help lower blood pressure and improve cardiovascular health for patients while reducing the perception of pain, and increasing motivation to recover faster. Healthcare workers also benefit from the visits.
Libraries
Visits improve literacy skills for children. Reading to a calm, non-judgmental therapy animal promotes independence, comprehension and communication skills, and a confidence in their own abilities.
Mental Health Facilities
Visits promote relaxation and non-judgmental support for patients which provides a sense of normalcy to feel more grounded and improve overall well-being and quality of life.
Nursing & Rehab Services
Visits create unconditional comfort and distraction for residents, providing mental stimulation for conditions like Alzheimer’s, by helping them recall memories and engage in meaningful interactions.
Schools
Visits provide calm learning environments, enhancing focus and emotional well being for children who may have physical, emotional, sensory or learning disabilities. We work to determine how best to help children reach their goals.
Veterans Homes
Visits improve mood and lessen depression for veterans in housing programs, helping them to connect with others, and providing motivation to move more, stretch farther, and exercise longer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I choose when and where we visit?
Our online dynamic calendar lets certified volunteer teams choose from a wide variety of visits based on location and schedule. We take care of the details (best place to park, where to check in, what to expect), so teams never need to contact facilities directly to schedule visits.
What kinds of facilities do you visit?
We have many visits for you to choose from each week, in a variety of settings and locations. We set up visits to hospitals, schools, libraries, mental health facilities, and senior centers. We encourage you to try a number of visits to see what works best for you and your therapy pet.
Can I bring my pet to work with me?
We have a program for in-house therapy animals (pets that go to work with their handler), which includes an annual fee and a contract with the facility. Currently, this program is only for schools. The program costs $750 annually and is typically covered by educational grants. Please reach out to us for further information on this program. 973-285-9083 ext:202
Do other teams go on visits with me?
Many of our visits are with two teams, so you will often have opportunities to visit with other CCPT teams.
Can I volunteer to help in other ways?
We do have opportunities to volunteer without an animal, but please note that we do not have a kennel. All our therapy pets are owned by and live with their handlers. Please contact us at info@ccpettherapy.org to discuss specific volunteer jobs.
How long are visits?
Each visit is typically an hour, unless it is a special event, in which case it may be longer. An hour of visiting can be tiring for the pets, so we try to stay within that timeframe.
The Power of
our Work
Doing Pet Therapy with Havana has been unbelievably rewarding. I love how excited she gets when I pull out her vest and tell her we are going to the hospital. The response from the kids, their parents and everyone we meet while walking through the halls brings us both great fulfillment. You can see the impact the dogs have, it’s a glimmer of light and hope for the patients. It’s honestly a privilege to be a part of Creature Comfort and have the ability to serve people in this special way.
