Welcome to the website of CareDivide!
This CERV project promotes gender equality, tackling the root causes of the gender care gap by promoting a gender transformative approach and challenging gender stereotypes.
About
CareDivide- Bridging the gender divide in informal long-term care is a CERV project [CERV-2024-GE] that runs from January 2025 until January 2027.
Care responsibilities prevent millions of women from participating in the workforce or limit them to part-time employment. CareDivide aims at addressing the gender gap in informal long-term care, and especially in caring for older family members, that perpetuates gender inequality in the labour market.
The project aims to:
*Work-life Balance Directive: In 2019, EU introduced the Work-Life Balance Directive seeking to support parents and carers (Directive (EU) 2019/1158).
Increase awareness on the value of care work and its impact on gender equality and the employment of women.
Implement extensive sensitisation actions to challenge traditional roles and stereotypes that perpetuate the gender care gap
Community Engagement
Join our community to connect with other caregivers. We foster a supportive environment where experiences can be shared, and knowledge exchanged, promoting resilience among families.
Objectives
To encourage companies to adopt and strengthen family-friendly workplace practices in alignment with the Work-life Balance Directive.
To enhance understanding of the importance of care work and its influence on gender equality and women’s participation in the labour market.
To carry out wide-ranging awareness-raising activities that challenge traditional gender roles and dismantle stereotypes sustaining the gender care gap.

Bridging the Gap
Statistics Reveal the Growing Gender Gap in Caregiving
Gender disparities in caregiving roles are stark. Our research shows that women disproportionately shoulder the burden of informal caregiving, often at the cost of their own well-being. This isn’t just a statistic; it’s a reality for millions, affecting families across all communities.
