Celebrating the 250th in Greater Philadelphia

Campus Philly and PHENND—two long-standing organizations dedicated to connecting and strengthening Greater Philadelphia’s higher education community—have teamed up to launch Campus250, a special grant program supporting innovative programming in celebration of America’s 250th birthday in 2026.

With support from the Philadelphia Funder Collaborative for the Semiquincentennial, Campus250 will provide funding to regional colleges and universities, and their partners, to bring bold, community-driven projects to life. Together, we’ll showcase the creativity and impact of our region through events, exhibitions, performances, and more.

Campus Philly, in partnership with PHENND, is thrilled to announce the recipients of our Campus250 grants, awarding more than $120,000 to support innovative, community-engaged projects that commemorate America’s 250th anniversary in 2026.

QUESTIONS?
Campus250 Frequently Asked Questions Expand

Can I apply to multiple rounds of funding for the same project?
If your project receives funding in Round 1, you are not eligible to apply for additional funding in future rounds—we aim to support a wide variety of projects across the region.

If your project is not funded, you are welcome to request feedback, make updates, and reapply in the next round.

Organizations may also submit multiple proposals, provided each proposal represents a distinct project.

Can funding be used to provide discounted or free tickets to events?
Yes! For example, grant funds may be used to provide students with free or reduced-price access to your program or event.

Are you looking for specific themes?
Not necessarily. Campus250 is designed to spark collaboration, creativity, and civic pride around America’s 250th anniversary.

Applicants should describe how their project celebrates or connects to the historical significance of the Semiquincentennial, but the approach and theme are up to you.

Does a nonprofit or K–12 school need to have a college or university partner identified when applying?
A strong application will include a confirmed higher education partner.

If you need help identifying one, Campus Philly and PHENND can assist in facilitating those connections.

What does the 50% match requirement mean?
Campus250 grants are designed to encourage additional investment in each project.

For example:

  • If your project costs $5,000 and you are awarded $5,000, your organization should contribute $2,500 in matching value—through staff time, in-kind donations (such as food or venue space), or other funding sources.
  • Larger projects (e.g., a $20,000 campus-wide event) might request $10,000 from Campus250 and show $10,000 in matching support from other sponsors.

Both cash and in-kind contributions can count toward the 50% match.

Can indirect costs be covered by the grant?
No. Campus250 is a micro-grant program focused solely on direct project expenses.

Indirect costs—such as utilities, facility maintenance, depreciation, or administrative salaries—are not eligible. All funds must be used for project execution.

Who should be listed as the primary sponsor?
Please list Campus Philly as the primary sponsor, as it serves as the affiliated 501(c)(3) organization and fiscal agent for the Campus250 initiative.
