Thousands of PA Amish Register to Vote – The October Surprise?

Here in Lancaster County, PA there is a treasure trove of potential voters just waiting to be plucked. There are over 90,000 Amish in Pennsylvania. With the largest conclave of the Amish in one place, Lancaster, Trump managed to find his way there early this week and with it came the realization that this time, the first time for many, the Amish were in for the action. Trump’s man on the ground is Scott Presler and he is looking for votes.

Why you might ask?

Bunkerville’s first post came back in 2010  EPA goes after Amish Farmers

“They are very resistant to government interference, and they object to government subsidies,” said Donald Kraybill, a professor at Elizabethtown College who studies the Amish. “They feel they should take care of their own.” How strange how unusual.

But farmers like Mr. Stoltzfus are facing growing scrutiny for agricultural practices that the federal government sees as environmentally destructive.

There’s much, much work that needs to be done, and I don’t think the full community understands,” said David McGuigan, the E.P.A. official leading an effort by the agency to change farming practices here in Lancaster County.

and things are not getting any better.

Which brings us to this:

The Deseret News picks up the story:

Scott Presler, the founder of Early Vote Action, winning Pennsylvania for Donald Trump is a matter of back-of-the-napkin math.

“I’m a data guy,” the founder of Early Vote Action, a conservative PAC, told me. Trump lost the state in 2020 by just 80,660 votes, a margin of 1%. To win this November, Presler needed to find a demographic group that size or bigger that he could swing toward Trump. How about the state’s 80,000 truckers? “That’s the election,” Presler said. The same could be said for the state’s 930,000 hunters, or 800,000 veterans.

Presler found the Amish.

As the 2024 election approached, the Trump world found its Amish hero: Amos Miller, the dairy farmer in Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania. He has become something of a folk hero for his ongoing fight with the state over his efforts to sell raw dairy goods. In 2016, the FDA discovered traces of listeria in Miller’s products; then in early 2024, after years of back-and-forth, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture executed a search warrant at Miller’s farm, and blocked him from selling raw milk.

On the Trump right, it was a clear example of blatant government overreach. Dozens of demonstrators marched outside the Lancaster County courthouse where Miller’s hearing was held. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Kentucky, tweeted that Miller was just a “man growing food”: “With all of the problems in society today, this is what the government wants to focus on?”

When Presler was invited onstage during Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania this month, he made a pitch directly to Miller and his followers. “To our beautiful Amish in Lancaster in Pennsylvania and across the state, we will protect your raw milk, your dairy, your farming, your school choice, your religious freedom, your ability to have ten beautiful children per family,” he said.

Pennsylvania is one of the key states in bringing home an election win for Trump. Should a squeaker of an election ultimately be decided by this religious group, indeed it will be providential.

Oregon Set to Vote on Ballot Initiative of $750. A Year for Everyone with 3% Tax on Corporations

Here is a ballot initiative that portends Oregon’s final throes into becoming the socialist utopia so many have hoped for. Take from the rich and give to the poor and why stop at $750.00 a year? Why not per month or per week? After all, the job creators should be punished. And why not. Outside the state groups are salivating and donating in support of this initiative. Here we go:

Oregon voters will likely decide in November whether to establish a historic universal basic income program that would give every state resident roughly $750 annually from increased corporate taxes.

Proponents of the concept say they likely have enough signatures to place it on the ballot this fall, and opponents are taking them seriously.

The proposal, Initiative Petition 17, would establish a 3% tax on corporations’ sales in Oregon above $25 million and distribute that money equally among Oregonians of all ages. As of Friday, its backers had turned in more than 135,000 signatures, which is higher than the 117,173 required to land on the ballot. The validity of those signatures must still be certified by the Secretary of State’s Office.

“Yes, the funders are from California, but these are not like nefarious outside interests here,” Martinez said. “These are people who are committed to basic income.”

Oregon business groups are preparing to fight the measure. State business lobby Oregon Business and Industry and tax policy research nonprofit Tax Foundation say raising corporate taxes would harm companies and lead to higher costs of goods and services.

“(The proposed measure) would impose a massive tax increase in Oregon,” Oregon Business and Industry said in a statement.
“It’s looking really good. It’s really exciting,” said Anna Martinez, a Portland hairstylist who helped form the group behind the campaign, Oregon People’s Rebate, in 2020. If approved by voters, the program would go into effect in January 2025.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Congress cleared a $1.1 trillion spending bill for President Barack Obama’s signature late Saturday night after a day of Senate intrigue capped by a failed, largely symbolic Republican challenge to the administration’s new immigration policy.

The vote was 56-40 in favor of the measure, which funds nearly the entire government through the Sept. 30 end of the fiscal year. It also charts a new course for selected shaky pension plans covering more than 1 million retirees, including the possibility of benefit cuts. See post:

The measure failed when it came up for a vote in the Senate. But since some Republicans, like Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA), were whipping votes, according to a congressional GOP aide, in favor of Obama’s executive amnesty against Cruz’s measure, a surprisingly high number of Republicans voted to reaffirm Obama’s executive amnesty. The measure failed with 22 senators voting for it and 74 voting against it. Toomey’s office hasn’t responded to a request for comment as to why he was whipping votes against Cruz’s measure, and in favor of Obama’s amnesty.

Here is an easy to look at link to the breakdown of votes for the Procedural Vote. This is not the final vote, but looks like it is going to be close. Boehner should be embarrassed since he said he had it in the bag.

UPDATE: Word is out that the final vote delayed. Not enough votes. Pelosi against it as well as Warren. So now we have to depend on Obama whipping up enough Dems to pass this monstrosity.

Floor Drama: Boehner Embarrassment As House Nearly Kills Omnibus On Procedural Vote

The final vote on Speaker John Boehner’s 1,603-page, more than $1 trillion omnibus spending bill is in jeopardy after members almost killed the bill on the rule. A total of 214 members voted for it, less than the majority of members in the House, but since all members weren’t voting, the 212 against the rule wasn’t enough to kill it.

Time for voting had run out minutes before, and briefly the nays—those against the rule—had the majority. At least one Republican had switched a vote from being against the rule to for it, at which time the presiding officer used procedural chicanery to quickly call the vote passed.

Mayor asks State to allow Illegals to vote

New Haven’s mayor wants illegal immigrants to be able vote in municipal elections

I am searching for a comment to make on this absurd story. Of course it is absurd now isn’t it? Did you ever have a story or post in the past that sticks in your head that gives Ripley’s Believe it or Not a run for its money? Of course it must not be legal? Then the Mayor says  “follow the lead of other cities”. So if you think that the Federal Courts cannot get in our elections and trash the Constitution, take a look at an earlier past post that I still find chilling,  Federal Court orders Port Chester to implement new voting methods.

“Cumulative voting” is a method of voting . Under cumulative voting , each voter gets to cast six votes, but not necessarily for six different candidates. He can vote for six different candidates, cast all six votes for one candidate, or any combination in between just as long as he casts no more than six votes for that contest.

But back to the business at hand.

DeStefano, a Democrat, said illegal immigrants pay taxes indirectly through rent and send their kids to New Haven schools and should be able to vote.

New Haven Mayor John DeStefano plans to ask the state Legislature to allow illegal immigrants who live in the city to be able vote in municipal elections.

DeStefano said on Tuesday that the proposal would build a more engaged community and follows the lead of other cities, the New Haven Independent reports.

Several Maryland municipalities already allow non-citizen voting, including Takoma Park, which granted illegal immigrants the right to vote in 1992. Chicago allows non-citizens to vote in school board elections. The proposal has failed in some other communities,

The Independent reports that New Haven has about 10,000  non-citizen immigrants.

Immigrants who are in the U.S. legally or illegally and cannot vote now would still be unable to vote in state or federal elections. More at NBC News
