Makerspace FAQ
A: Open Studio is drop-in time for both Makerspaces. It is a time for patrons to work, learn or plan with the help of staff. Tours are also facilitated during this time. There is no Woodshop access during Open Studio unless you have an appointment.
A: Our most popular tools require appointments, including laser cutting, woodshop tools and screen printing. Classes are registration based, register for those in order to secure your spot. Everything else can be accessed on a first-come-first served basis. Book an appointment here.
A: This time is for laser cutting appointments only.
A: Appointments can be made at our Tool Appointment page to use woodshop tools to finish personal projects. The woodshop is not available for use during regular Open Studio hours. Visit our Woodshop page for more information.
A: Appointments are released 2 weeks in advance. If it appears that a tool has no available appointments, it simply means all appointments for the next 2 weeks are booked. New appointments are added on a rolling basis, so check back in the next week or so for new appointments to become available. Cancellations can also lead to appointments opening up.
A: We’re not able to accept emailed files, please come in person to drop off prints during Open Studio at BLDG 61.
A: There are no prerequisites, and no library card is required. Patrons simply need to sign a waiver every time they visit the space. We do recommend viewing an orientation video before coming to a laser cutting appointment. Staff are always on hand if you need help.
A: Patrons of all ages are welcome, but everyone who visits the makerspaces must adhere to the makerspace use policy. Minors (under 18) must have a parent/adult guardian sign the acknowledgement of risk and release form before entering the space. Patrons under the age of 14 must be supervised by a parent or adult guardian.
A: Machines stay in the library for everyone to use.
A: Check online two weeks before the program to register. Classes often fill up, so please join the waitlist if this happens.
A: There is a link on your confirmation email to cancel your registration. Please cancel as soon as you know to allow other patrons to participate.
A: Programs start promptly at their listed time and doors close 10 minutes after the start time. Please pay attention to where the program is located to help ensure your on-time arrival. If you are unable to stay for the entire duration of the program, please register for a different program.
