About the resources
This website is a collection of resources I have put together over recent years to support the students I teach. The photographs on the site were also taken by me and include microscope slides prepared by students as well as everyday examples of the natural world spotted on walks.
The GCSE resources are for AQA Trilogy Biology and/or single award Biology (triple) and the A level resources are for OCR Biology A. I may add GCSE Chemistry resources over time.
I have tried to design the site to be accessible to both students and teachers, meaning that some of the explanation of the resources is directed at students and some is guidance for teachers – I hope this is helpful rather than confusing.
I have always enjoyed making resources and seeing them used effectively by students and colleagues. I put this site together so that my students have access to my resources and tips all in one place, but colleagues have often suggested that I should sell some of these online. Instead of this, I have decided to make them freely available in the hope that they might save other teachers some time, or support students with revision and reinforcement. They are not perfect, and some of the resources haven’t been tested as I made them for students to use independently or made them during a holiday and plan to use them later, so teachers please check for mistakes before using.
I do have just a couple of conditions if you use any of the resources:
- I am offering these without charge but I (and/or my school) still retain all ownership rights to these, so please do not repackage or resell them in any format, edited or unedited on any other websites e.g. TES.
- I have made many of these in my free time, so they are not perfect. If you find them helpful, I would love for you to let me know via the contact form and/or for you to share the site with others, but if not, please simply don’t use them – although feel free to politely let me know if you spot any obvious mistakes or want to offer constructive feedback.

About me
I am a Science teacher in a large comprehensive school in Suffolk, teaching mainly Biology at GCSE and A level. I also teach some Chemistry at GCSE and all subjects at KS3. I am a Chartered Science Teacher (CSciTeach) awarded through ASE and I have an additional responsibility within my school relating to use of technology which has previously included development of our VLE, use of technology to enhance teaching and learning (including looking at online assessments and ways to monitor student engagement during online lessons) and more recently working on aspects of digital marketing. I also recently developed a programme of tutor time activities across the school and a comprehensive Sixth Form enrichment programme, including booklets for each year group to incorporate aspects of personal and social development and as part of our whole school commitment to equality and diversity.
I qualified in 2004 and since I started training I have always taken an interest in current research and ideas about teaching. I have implemented many of these over the years, some of which have since been discredited. I have always been very interested in the science of metacognition and in how to learn and revise effectively. I hope that the resources on these pages will support research-based learning strategies such as retrieval practice, interleaving and spaced repetition and I have tried to give ideas about how each resource might be used.
