Autodesk DirectConnect is a collection of high-performance CAD data translators developed by Autodesk. It enables reliable import and conversion of complex 3D geometry, assemblies, and associated metadata from leading CAD systems into supported Autodesk applications. With support for widely used formats—including CATIA V5, Siemens NX, JT, Creo (formerly Pro/ENGINEER), SolidWorks, STEP, IGES, Parasolid, and ACIS—DirectConnect helps teams bring design intent into tools such as Alias, VRED, 3ds Max, and Maya with minimal rework.
Key capabilities include robust large-assembly handling, tessellation and unit control, hierarchy and layer preservation, and color and material mapping, along with options to update scenes when source CAD changes. By streamlining data exchange, DirectConnect reduces translation errors and shortens preparation time for visualization, design review, simulation, and downstream manufacturing workflows. The translators are provided as plug-ins or components that install with, or are available for, select Autodesk products. Availability of specific formats and features may vary by product and version.
