Grammar School: Grades K - 6
Where children discover the joy of learning and build a strong foundation for the years ahead.
The Grammar School is the beginning of the Augustine journey—where curiosity is encouraged, wonder is welcomed, and students delight in learning the building blocks of every subject. In these early years, children are naturally eager to memorize, absorb details, and explore the world around them. We lean into this God-given readiness by teaching the “grammar” of each discipline: math facts and number sense, scientific classifications, maps and landmarks, historical timelines, rich vocabulary, and the patterns of language.
Learning in the Grammar School is hands-on, lively, and filled with beauty. Students sing, recite, illustrate, dramatize, and engage with great stories, art, and music. In every subject, they encounter examples of order, creativity, and truth—reflecting the character of the God who made all things. Whether studying the sweep of history, the intricacy of mathematics, or the natural world, students begin to see that learning is a way of knowing God’s world and responding with joy.
Strong classroom routines and clear expectations create a safe, structured environment where children can grow in confidence. Small class sizes and whole-class learning foster a close-knit community where classmates encourage one another and friendships form naturally. Teachers guide students as they practice kindness, responsibility, and empathy—helping them understand how their choices affect others.
As students mature, so does their work. Reading and writing become more sophisticated; math increases in complexity; history expands from the Age of Exploration to the modern era; and science emphasizes careful observation and analysis. Formal Latin begins in third grade, strengthening students’ understanding of language and preparing them for logical thinking in later years.
The Grammar School lays the foundation—academically, spiritually, and relationally—for everything that follows. With parents as partners, we seek to nurture children who love learning, love beauty, and love their neighbors as they grow in knowledge, understanding, and wisdom.
