General Certification Questions:
What is ISO Certification?
ISO certification signifies that a company's management system, manufacturing process, service, or documentation procedure has all the requirements for standardization and quality assurance. ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is an independent, non-governmental, international organization that develops standards to ensure the quality, safety, and efficiency of products, services, and systems.
Why should my business get ISO certified?
ISO certification offers numerous benefits, including enhanced credibility and customer confidence, improved operational efficiency, better risk management, compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and access to new markets that require certification.
How long does ISO certification last?
ISO certifications are typically valid for three years, subject to annual surveillance audits. At the end of the three-year cycle, a re-certification audit is conducted to renew the certificate.
What is the difference between certification and accreditation?
Certification is the process where a third-party (like ATLAS Certification) audits an organization's management system and certifies it against an ISO standard. Accreditation is the formal recognition by an authoritative body (like JASANZ) that a certification body is competent to carry out certification activities.
Can Atlas help us develop our Management System?
No, as a JASANZ-accredited Certification Body, we are not allowed to offer consulting services as this could potentially affect our impartiality if we were then to subsequently assess the system and issue Certification.
About ATLAS Certification:
What makes ATLAS Certification different?

Are you JASANZ accredited?
Yes, ATLAS Certification is fully accredited by JASANZ (Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand) for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 27001.
How experienced are your auditors?
Our team comprises highly experienced and qualified lead auditors with decades of combined experience across various industries, ensuring a deep understanding of your business context.
What is JASANZ?
JASANZ stands for Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand. JASANZ is a Government appointed body whose primary task is to accredit Certification Bodies to ensure that Certification Services in accordance with the applicable requirements, incl. things such as auditor competence, management of impartiality, compliance with duration and sample requirements, etc.
Costs & Pricing:
How much does ISO certification cost?
The cost of ISO certification varies depending on factors such as the size and complexity of your organization, the scope of your management system, and the specific ISO standards you wish to certify. We provide transparent, competitive quotes tailored to your needs.
Are there any hidden fees?
No, ATLAS Certification is committed to transparent pricing. Our proposals clearly outline all costs associated with the certification process, with no hidden fees.
What influences the cost of certification?
Key factors include the number of employees, the number of sites, the complexity of processes, and the specific ISO standards being pursued.
Do we need to pay for travel for the auditor?
That depends somewhat on your location or the locations (such as project sites) that we may need to travel to during the Audit. In most capital cities across Australia and New Zealand (up to 25km from the CBD) we will not charge travel expenses, even if we would need to fly in an Auditor from interstate. Anything beyond that, we would charge as per the rates that will be detailed in our Proposal to you.
The Audit Process:
What happens during a Stage 1 audit?
A Stage 1 audit (document review) involves reviewing your management system documentation to ensure it meets the requirements of the chosen ISO standard and is ready for the Stage 2 audit.
What happens during a Stage 2 audit?
A Stage 2 audit (on-site audit) is a comprehensive assessment of the implementation and effectiveness of your management system in practice at your premises.
What is a surveillance audit?
Surveillance audits are conducted annually after initial certification to ensure your management system continues to comply with the standard and is effectively maintained.
What is a re-certification audit?
A re-certification audit is conducted at the end of the three-year certification cycle to verify the continued effectiveness and conformity of your management system for renewal of your certificate.
What happens if I have non-conformities?
If non-conformities are identified, you will be given a specified timeframe to implement corrective actions. Certification is granted once all non-conformities are closed out satisfactorily.
How long does it take to get certified?
That varies per organisation but depends mainly on your level of preparedness. The assessment processes (i.e., Audits) we need to conduct typically only last a few days in total and can usually be provided with only limited notice.
How often do audits need to be done?
Once you are certified by us, most commonly there would be an annual Surveillance Audit and a 3-yearly Re-Certification. We may however decide to conduct Audits at a higher frequency. This could, for example, occur if you are a start up business and there is only limited information to confirm full implementation of the Management System at the time of the Certification Audit.
Small & Start-up Businesses:
Is ISO certification suitable for small businesses?
Absolutely! ISO standards are designed to be applicable to organizations of all sizes. Many small businesses find immense value in implementing an ISO management system to streamline operations, enhance credibility, and facilitate growth.
Can a start-up get ISO certified?
Yes, start-ups can pursue ISO certification. It's an excellent way to establish robust processes and a strong foundation for quality, environmental responsibility, safety, or information security from the outset.
