Experienced English Literature Tutor

Hi there, I’m Amira, a dedicated and friendly tutor with extensive experience in teaching GCSE, A-Level, and degree-level English Literature and Language. Over the past year, I have run one-to-one GCSE and A-Level sessions, helping students achieve top grades through a combination of past paper practice and discussion-based learning. I have worked across most exam boards, including AQA, OCR, and Edexcel.

I graduated with a BA in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh and have considerable experience supporting sixth-form students through the Oxbridge application process. This includes creating personalised reading lists, conducting practice interviews, and providing detailed feedback. Additionally, I offer support with personal statements and admissions tests.

I achieved a high mark on my undergraduate dissertation and am also available to provide dissertation support at the undergraduate level. This includes helping you structure and plan your research, refining your argument, and improving your writing style and register.

I have taught over 60 hours of KS3 classes in Manchester as part of a mentoring scheme, which gave me valuable experience working with students in Years 7-9. I am particularly skilled at helping students transition smoothly between KS2 and KS3, a period that can be challenging for many learners.

In addition to my passion for teaching, I am also an artist and theatre director. I am open to offering bespoke education in directing, acting, and other areas of performance and visual arts.

📚 How to Master Textual Analysis

Textual analysis is at the heart of English Literature studies. Here’s how to sharpen your skills:

🔍 Zoom In on Language: Pick out key words or phrases and ask yourself why the writer chose them. What mood, idea, or theme do they convey?
💡 Understand Context: Historical, cultural, or social contexts can add depth to your analysis. For example, understanding Victorian ideals of morality can transform your reading of Jane Eyre.
✨ Look for Patterns: Repeated symbols, themes, or motifs often highlight key messages in a text. Identify them and link them to the question.
🖋️ Practice Writing Concisely: Aim to explain your points clearly and avoid unnecessary waffle.

Consistent practice will make analysis feel second nature—start with these tips and watch your confidence grow!

🖋️ Top Tips for Writing a Strong Essay

Writing an essay can be daunting, but with a solid approach, it becomes manageable and even enjoyable! Here are some tips:

✨ Plan Before You Write: Spend 5-10 minutes creating a quick outline. Define your argument, key points, and examples. A clear plan saves time and keeps your essay focused.
📖 Use PEEL Paragraphs: Structure each paragraph with Point, Evidence, Explanation, and Link. This ensures clarity and keeps your argument strong.
🔍 Be Analytical, Not Descriptive: Go beyond summarising the text. Ask yourself why the writer used certain techniques and how they affect the reader.
🖋️ Review Your Work: Leave 5 minutes to proofread for spelling, grammar, and flow. Small changes can make a big difference!
