Virtual Skill Labs for PSSCIVE, Bhopal
Across India, countless women trained through Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s initiatives are turning their skills into livelihoods. The Women’s Empowerment Project Store serves as a bridge — We are bringing the Make in India vision to life in the most rural corners of the country, empowering women to produce locally and compete globally. The We Store is advancing gender equality in the global garment and bag manufacturing sector through our women seamstresses. Through our network of volunteers and in-house designers we are constantly endeavouring to build capacity and advance their skill sets to enable them to compete in the marketplace effectively.

Enhancing Teaching and Learning of Vocational Skills through Machine Learning and Cognitive Training (MCT)
For the past 15 years, AMMACHI labs has been training women on several vocational trades to enhance their skills, tools, and market reach. This research project complements the initiative by providing neurocognitive data-driven insights on dexterous vocational skill performance specifically on tailoring skills.

Using a participatory, systems-based approach, the intervention will promote inclusive leadership, shared responsibilities, and community resilience.
Amrita Eye Care Champions
Preventable blindness caused by cataracts and uncorrected refractive errors remains a significant community health problem throughout rural Africa. Eye conditions in rural regions are disproportionately common due to factors such as dietary deficiencies, intense UV exposure near the equator, poor sanitation exacerbated by drought, and a severe shortage of eye care professionals. Many communities lack access to timely eye care services.
The Viswamrit Project: Empowering Women through Skill Development and Community Engagement
The Viswamrit Project is a transformative initiative launched to empower women from the Vishwakarma community through a structured skill development program in Kannur and Kollam districts of Kerala. Spearheaded by the Center for Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality (CWEGE), Amritapuri, in collaboration with the Vishwakarma Navothan Foundation, the project is grounded in Amma’s vision of upliftment through education, dignity, and collective empowerment.

Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR)
Amrita PAPR, an ultra-low-cost Powered Air Purifying Respirator alternative for frontline medical workers for COVID-19 response.he blower in a PAPR takes contaminated ambient air, passes it through a filter and supplies it into the hood on the user’s head
WE: Rural Toilet Builder-Community Sanitation ph2
Phase II of the Women’s Empowerment: Rural Toilet Builder and Community Sanitation Project scaled Phase I efforts to 21 states throughout India. WE: Sanitation II extended the initial phase of the program that was conducted from 2014-16.
Pepe the Social Robot – Pilot Project
Pepe is a hand-shaped robot with a small video screen mounted behind its green plastic exterior. Installed on a wall near school washrooms, its purpose is to interact with children as they pass by the sink and encourage them to practise proper handwashing.
NUF – 500 Filtration Systems
Water reserves in the state of Kerala were severely impacted by the 2018 floods that contaminated much of the drinking water supply and left almost all water resources in the state polluted and unsafe for use.
Amrita Unmanned Aerial Systems
Addressing the pressing need for a medical payload dropping solution deployable during disasters like the Kerala floods and the Uttarakhand flash floods that paralysed our nation and its people, Amrita University researchers have embarked on a targeted payload delivery system carried on a multirotor vertical take off and landing UAV.
The WISE Project
The environmental impact of the Kerala floods has been significant. Top soil in most affected areas has been completely washed off. The dwindling tree cover that barely held the top soil in place has been drastically reduced, triggering and triggered by landslides. Rivers and ground water sources have been polluted by debris, human and animal carcasses.
The NORRAG Project

Soil-Sampling Robot
In post-disaster scenarios, especially those dealing with soil contamination by hazardous materials, it is important that soil quality be measured without putting human lives at risk. Our engineers designed and implemented an autonomous soil sampling solution based on the platform for monitoring the presence of heavy metals in landfills.
Wearable Assistive Device
The AMMACHI Labs Rural Technologies team of engineers have designed and deployed a low-cost wearable assistive device for women in the rural villages (Dunda and Udalka) of Uttarakhand for assisting them to carry the conventionally used basket for carrying heavy loads
Cable Driven Robot for Assisting Coconut Dehusking
Coconut de-husking is a labor intensive and expensive process crucial to agricultural productivity in coconut growing states like Kerala which faces an acute shortage of farm labor. Faced with this problem, our engineers have developed a cable driven parallel robot for automating the process of coconut dehusking in large and medium sized farms.
“Ri-Cycle” Rice Transplanter
Rice saplings need to be planted with regular spacing to optimize water and nutrient intake. This process is very labor intensive and leads to back problems and repetitive stress injuries in the farm laborers.
