Amrita’s Chancellor, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi (Amma) was appointed as the Chair of Civil20 India 2023, and led the efforts of 16 thematic Working Groups, including one on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE WG). From January to August 2023, our Working Group engaged with thousands of civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations, experts and academics from all over the world to gather policy recommendations and best practices to be presented to the G20 Leaders. The Working Group focused on the following thematic areas of Gender Equality and Womens’ Empowerment: Economic Empowerment and Sustainable Livelihoods, Education and Skill Development, Physical and Mental Health, Society and Culture, Safety and Security, Environment and Disaster Management, and Engaging Men and Boys.
