Jamiel Allen, Arizona Criminal Defense Attorney

Experienced Criminal Defense Attorney Dedicated to Protecting Your Rights

For over 20 years, I have dedicated my career exclusively to criminal defense—representing individuals who are facing the prospect of investigation, arrest, or prosecution for serious felony charges. My practice is built on one fundamental belief: every person deserves to be treated with dignity, to have their story heard, and to have a tireless advocate standing between them and the full power of the government.

Professional Background & Experience

I have represented hundreds of clients throughout the State of Arizona and Massachusetts. Before establishing my own practice, I served as an Assistant Federal Public Defender and Deputy Pima County Public Defender—roles that gave me an inside perspective on how the government builds criminal cases and how to effectively dismantle them in court.

Over the course of my career, I have handled hundreds of cases and tried approximately 40 serious felony jury trials to verdict, including cases involving homicide, drug trafficking, assault, immigration offenses, fraud, and firearms offenses. I have also argued before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

In addition to my public defense work, I previously served as an in-house compliance investigator at Raytheon, where I led internal investigations involving fraud, discrimination, compliance violations, and whistleblower claims. This experience gave me a unique understanding of how corporate and federal investigations operate—knowledge that directly benefits my clients facing white-collar and financial crime charges.

Areas of Focus

I represent clients in Arizona state courts, federal district courts, and tribal courts. My practice focuses on serious felony charges, including:

  • Drug trafficking and distribution
  • Violent crimes and assault
  • Sex offenses and exploitation charges
  • White-collar and financial crimes
  • DUI and vehicular offenses
  • Firearms offenses and prohibited possession
  • Restraining orders and protective orders

I also have extensive experience representing federal employees, contractors, and military personnel in security clearance matters and sensitive federal investigations.

Bar Admissions & Professional Involvement

I am admitted to practice law in Arizona and before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. I am an active member of the Federal Bar Association and have been involved in leadership and committee work through:

  • Federal Bar Association
  • Arizona State Bar Criminal Defense Practice and Procedure Committee
  • Local bar leadership programs

I am also proficient in Spanish, allowing me to communicate clearly with Spanish-speaking clients and their families throughout the legal process.

My Approach to Criminal Defense

My philosophy is built on careful investigation, rigorous review, and honest advice. I approach each case with the understanding that my clients are facing one of the most difficult moments of their lives—and they deserve more than a cookie-cutter defense.

I prepare every case as if it will go to trial. This means conducting thorough factual investigations, challenging the government’s evidence through aggressive motion practice, and holding prosecutors to their burden of proof at every stage. Whether the best outcome is achieved through negotiation, alternative resolution, or a jury trial, my goal is always the same: to vigorously protect my clients’ constitutional rights and pursue the best possible result.

I also believe in clear, honest communication. You will always know where your case stands, what your options are, and what the risks and benefits of each decision might be. No false promises. No sugarcoating. Just straightforward counsel you can trust.

Why Clients Choose My Firm

When you retain me, you get me. Unlike large firms that shuffle cases between multiple attorneys and paralegals, I personally handle every aspect of your defense. Your case won’t be passed off to a junior associate or left sitting on someone’s desk while they juggle dozens of other files.

My practice is deliberately selective. I limit my caseload so that every client receives the focused, undivided attention their case deserves. This approach allows me to dig deeply into the facts, identify weaknesses in the prosecution’s case, and develop creative strategies tailored to each individual client.

The combination of extensive trial experience, insider knowledge of how investigations are built, and a commitment to personal service gives my clients a clear advantage when facing the criminal justice system.

My Path to Criminal Defense

Before I became a criminal defense lawyer, I worked for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, advocating for enhanced healthcare in rural communities and life-saving services. Going to law school was a deliberate choice—I wanted to continue standing up for the underdog when it actually counts.

That commitment has never wavered. For more than 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of defending people whose liberty, reputation, and future are at stake. I approach every case with genuine concern for my clients’ lives, families, and freedom—because I understand that behind every case file is a real person facing real consequences.
