FAQ
- Does my thesis require a distribution statement?
A: Yes. All AFIT documents (theses, dissertations, GRPs, etc.) require a distribution statement.
- If my document is export controlled, must it also contain a distribution statement?
A: Yes. All documents with restricted release must contain a distribution statement. In addition, all technical documents that are determined to contain export-controlled technical data shall also be marked with the export control warning.
- How do I know my distribution statement is complete?
A: See tab 4: "How to Build a Distribution Statement"
- My document is Distro E. Do I have to include all four components in the following order for my distribution statement to be accurate: 1. Authorized Audience or Who Can Access; 2. Reason for Control; 3. Date of Determination; 4. Controlling Office or Releasing Authority?
A: Yes. Again, see tab 4.
- Is export control considered a distribution statement?
A: No. It is a reason that can be used with Distribution Statements B, C, D, or E.
- May I mark my technical document Distribution X?
A: No. Distribution X is no longer used. Choose one of these six statements: A, B, C, D, E, or F.
- My dissertation is Distro B. May I use the reason Direct Military Support?
A: No. Direct Military Support is a reason used with Distributions E and F only.
- How do I change the distribution statement of a document once it has been uploaded to DTIC?
A: Send an email to infosec@dtic.mil and make your request. A DTIC representative will contact you with instructions.
- My document is classified. Do I also need a distribution statement to comply with the STINFO program?
A: Yes. Regardless of classification, all AFIT documents require a distribution statement.
