1. I'm still looking for a job. I HATE looking for a job. I've spent more time in the last 6 months looking for a job than I have spent HAVING a job, and that is a major pain in my ass.

2. Sign-ups are now going on for the next round at lotr_lims! Sign up and make pretties with us!

3. I finished my stupid doily! It got kind of screwed up in places, and as I didn't understand the directions for the edging it doesn't really look how it's supposed to. Whatever, it was just something I made out of sheer boredom. I'm giving it to my mother, she likes it well enough haha.

PicturesCollapse )

Now I need a new knitting project. I might finally give in and make Clapotis, although I'd rather make it with varigated yarn, and I have none of that at the moment. Ohhh I don't know. If you have a cool pattern you found recently, let me know. I'm bored.

4. For today's Pottermania here's another new picture from OotP!! Woo!!Collapse )

5. I've made about 35/50 icons so far for the Phuck Attack Challenge. I chose Starbuck from BSG as my theme, and it's becoming abundantly clear while I make these that I have a gigantic girlcrush on Katee Sackhoff. It's weird because half the time I hate Starbuck, and I think she's an asshole, but something about her makes me love her. She's like the female Sawyer or something.

Anyway, I'm really loving the icons I'm making right now. I'm just full of inspiration these days. I just wish it was inspiration to find employment and not to make tiny pictures and doilies lol.

+ Today had some of the most insane papers we've seen yet. I don't know what these kids are smoking, or if something's in the water, or what the hell is going on.

Willum, I sed, you have made a grand discovery!Collapse )

+ In other news, I'm officially hooked on Supernatural. And I am honestly surprised at how much better it got at the very end of the first season, starting with the one when John found them. And all of the sudden there was all this...character development LOL. And I like that both boys are lovable, but in totally different ways. Dean's my favorite, and it's not just because he's ridiculously, RIDICULOUSLY pretty and he gets all the cool one-liners. But he's the oldest and I'm the oldest and I feel for him. Oh, Dean. &hearts

Tonight I shall make icons.

OH and also, Matthew Fox needs to hire Jeffrey Dean Morgan to give him private "How to Cry Like a Man" lessons. Please.

+ I made myself a new shiny profile yesterday. It took like 4 hours because I lose at html. Oh well, I love it now that it's all done. I even made my own last.fm player so it would match haha.

+ Today at work I realized the woman who sits across from me looks like Ricky Gervais with strawberry blonde hair LOL.

Here's the daily 3rd grader report. XD

My brain hurts.Collapse )

I started reading Summerland by Michael Chabon and even though I don't care about baseball it's really interesting. It's got all this Native American and Norse mythology woven into the main story about a kid who sucks at baseball. And I just saw in this week's EW that Chabon wrote another book and I need to get my hands on it. Pronto.

Apologies if anyone feels like I've been neglecting them lately. By the time I get home from work I have to skip back=240 on my f-list. That's after not checking it for 16 hours. Out of frakking control, I tell you. I need to do a f-list cut soon. Those are always fun.

Not.

For the next few weeks I think I'm going to have to start posting my favorite student essay from each day. And my favorite spelling of a big word as written by an 8-year-old.

The essay prompt is something like this: You are on a playground and you come across a strange object. Tell a story about what it is and what happens once you find it.

Most of the kids find a diamond or a magic gem, an animal of some sort, an egg, or an alien. And then you have the kids who are just way out in left field. Yesterday my favorite found object was "A Soap Statue Shaped Like a Rat." O_o Because I mean, a rat statue wouldn't be weird enough. This one is made of soap.

So today's favorite response involved the child finding a fossil. They went to show it to their teacher, but she wasn't an arklegest [archaeologist], so they took it to Jakey Chan, who was an arklegest, and "a good one as a matter of fact."

Other notable 3rd grader spellings for today:
odanawe [ordinary]
cefl [careful]
acetylent dorpdtit [accidentally dropped it]

Sometimes there are words that not one person in a room with 100 test scorers in it can figure out what the hell they meant to say. Ah, to be 8 again.

HAPPY LOST DAY! Ongoing post will be up at 10 for anyone who wants to spazz with us :D

And I'm all proud of myself now because I actually won a challenge at starttheclock XD

LOL this week someone commented that the colors on the icon I made for lumos_lims were a "bit flat."

It was a black and white icon. -_-

We started a new project at work today. We're grading third graders' essays. They are HILARIOUS. I totally called it that I would see a Harry Potter mention by the end of the day, and lo and behold, I got one about a Firebolt. The kids have to answer a question that's basically "You find a strange object on the playground. What is it?" So there are all kinds of wacky things they come up with. Diamonds and moon rocks and snails and alien eggs and slimy Martian coins that transport you into the jungle while making you into a Hiro-like superhero. LOL seriously. (I think that kid might be the next Vonnegut Y/N)

Needless to say, it's going to be infinitely more fun than grading 10th grade math papers like last time.

And here's a random question to all those who have either graduated college or are old enough to have graduated college, but still live with their parents: Do you pay rent?

Cut for those who don't care.Collapse )

ETA: Know what I really hate? Mods that bitch about doing modly things. It's like, no one is forcing you to do anything, sheesh.

Good news, Supernatural fans.

+ I watched the first 5 episodes yesterday and I actually really liked it. And I think Jensen might be the prettiest man I have ever seen. And the music rules. And I like the dynamic between the brothers. And even though it's kind of cheesy and I usually hate horror movies and shows that are basically mini horror movies, I'm a fan :D (So far my favorite one was the airplane demon one, mostly because the faces Dean made while the plane was crashing were AWESOME lol).

+ I sent my resume out to 6 more school districts. Please please please someone call me for an interview. Please.

+ I finally go back to work tomorrow, thank god. I am so poor. SO SO poor. The next project we'll be working on is grading standardized tests from Arizona - essays, this time. Should be infinitely more exciting that math problems. Hopefully.

+ I really want to go on a trip. A lot. I literally have $0 right now, so it's completely out of the question, but I watched The Amazing Race until 4 am last night and couldn't stop thinking of all the awesome places I want to go. Sigh.

My life needs a makeover. Unfortunately those kinds of things take months, if not years to happen. But I'm at least starting. I'm applying to all those jobs and I think I'm going to try and start walking for a while every day after work, now that it's nice out. Fun.

+ I am just in love with intodelirium's icons. LIKE A LOT.

+ I am officially saying right now that I will never read these goddamn Edward Cullen books that 98% of my f-list will not shut up about. I love you guys, but seriously. Vampires and fluffy Young Adult novels are not for me lol. I didn't like that stuff when I was 13, and I certainly will not like it now.

This is partly just me being a snob and saying that anything popular probably sucks, but it's mostly because I'm just sick of seeing it on 158 of the 160 entries I need to skip back every day after work. Ahem. Not directed at anyone in particular. Promise.

+ I found out today that after tomorrow or Thursday, I won't have to go to work again until April 30th. Which sucks because no work for 2 weeks means no money, but it also means no work for 2 weeks. Score.

+ I am working on a giant British Comedy icon post. Blackadder. Jeeves and Wooster. Young Ones. The Office. Extras. Monty Python. Coupling. Huge, I say. I'm not taking official requests, but if you have a particular icon you want made, let me know. Because there is just so much to choose from.

+ This time of year is when I always start dreaming about going on some fabulous trip. But this year I am absolutely dead broke, so I'm not going any farther than my backyard this year ;_; I want to go places and see things and meet cool people and just experience places that aren't New Jersey. Sigh. That will be the best part about my future career as a teacher - summers off. I plan on gallivanting around the globe. Mark my words.

1. I had a dream last night in which I saw Lee Adama naked. Totally naked. And it was...impressive. LOL I never have dreams like that, and I woke up and I was like "WTF!?" Bambi is hung like a frakkin' horse.

1b. Come to think of it, this may have had to do with not only BSG, but the fact that I watched 300 yesterday. GUUUUUHH my LORD.

2a. I am super excited about my next knitting project!!! I'm going to be making the Clessidra Stockings from the newest Knitty. It's the only thing from this whole isue I'm even remotely interested in making, but lskdf;lskd I cannot wait to start them. I ordered some navy blue yarn. They are going to be awesome.

2b. While I'm waiting for my yarn to get here I'm making a pair of Jaywalker socks, which is like a rite of passage for every knitter. What I've got so far...Collapse )

3. I'm finally done training at work, and the job is actually pretty cool! You're constantly thinking, and that's the one thing I hated most about my last job - that it was totally mindless. But it's relatively interesting, and I work with so many people that it's not like I can get sick of them. So yay for the new job! Even if it is internet-free.

4. My sister went and landed herself in the hospital again. The short story is she took an entire box of cold medicine the other night. There is more to it, but either way it's a relapse. Boo. I'm more mad at her than anything. She needs to get her shit together. I don't need internet hugs or anything. I just want her to knock it off.

Anyway, her being in the hospital means I have to feed her cats, which means that in like an hour I'll come back and post new pictures of the kittens, who I saw last night and are SO ADORABLE IT HURTS. ;ldkfklsdjlks You'll see. That will be up later.

5. I cannot stop thinking about last night's BSG. aljfsdjdllkdjllfsfsd';lf
