I found a really cool odd song on the soundtrack to a 1990 australian movie called 'The Big Steal'. The song is 'I'll never have anything more' by The Front Lawn. It's a hybrid folk, reggae, jazz, blues, cabaret pop/rock thing that I'd never heard before and liked.

So I'm hunting for it on the web and the only thing I can find by the Front Lawn is the weird promo they did below sometime in the mid 1980s. It does have a grab of the song I'm talking about but with a very stripped back instrumentation to the one I'm enjoying. I'm posting it any way in case you are a fan of The Flight of the Conchords - this is proof the kiwis have a rich history of quirky musicomedy.

A cover of an old classic - mix floyd with celloes and use radiohead as your backing band - how can you go wrong.

I've owned a bit of Rabih Abou-Khalil stuff for a while - but this is a new track for me, lovely moodsetting middle eastern jazz

I don't even understand my own taste, for some reason I like this stoner metal album from Naam - the video looks like an anthropologist trip into scumbaggery, doesn't really do the music justice.

I am partial to a bit of ambient as long as it doesn't stray too much into drone or new age and has a bit of creativity to it. I find Vangelis a bit hit and miss, but that is a really nice piece - I really liked Soil Festivities, but it could do with a decent video - that's a project for me!

Funny how the world changes - video games giving us great music - the Halo soundtrack is very cool. Of course the gaming industry is now about as big as the movie industry so it makes sense.

I love this thread hinge dude.

Especially liked the "Baby Please Don't Go" section although I seriously doubt Joe Williams wrote it even though his is the first recorded version. I believe the song evolved from a field "holler" or a "linin track" song. Perhaps from this one called "Another Man Done Gone".

Here's where the strange comes in. Listen to this version by Johnny Cash and perhaps his wife June.

Vimeo's restricted the last video from showing in Australia, but i liked the two Burning Brides tracks - Anhedonia is now on my wish list - I already had Leave No Ashes, their 2004 releases.
