COSM is a major national meeting for Otolaryngologists – head and neck surgeons. At COSM, each member society presents an educational scientific program, which features prominent speakers in their respective specialty. These sessions are attended by the key practitioners within their field, as well as by otolaryngology residents, medical students, and allied health.

COSM 2026, April 22-26, 2026 in Phoenix, AZ will offer a range of educational opportunities including oral presentations, panels, fireside chats, keynote lectures, product demos, and posters. COSM Societies offer publishing opportunities in addition to awards and scholarships.

Information for podium presenters and poster presenters

Submission Timeline at a Glance

  • Abstract submission deadline: November 10th, 11:59pm CT
  • Notification of acceptance: No later than December 31st
  • Confirmation of acceptances: January 19, 2026
  • Manuscript submissions due to ABEA and The Laryngoscope: March 9th, 2026 (for awards consideration), March 30th for all others. 
  • Posters submissions are due to ABEA by March 30th to be considered for an ABEA Poster Award.

General Abstract Requirements 

General Abstract Submission Instructions:

All general abstracts must be submitted electronically through ABEA’s Abstract Submission site. All users must create a profile (name, email, & password).  


Abstract Submission Guidelines:

  1. Abstracts must be submitted in the structured format of The Laryngoscope (Please access The Laryngoscope submission site for the most recent version of Instructions for Authors).
  2. Abstracts should be kept to 250 words or less.
  3. Do not reference any hospital or institution in the body of the abstract, or reference any other identifiers as abstracts are blinded to the reviewers.
  4. Abstracts should not contain data presented or submitted elsewhere concurrently or published previously.
  5. Manuscripts for accepted podium and poster abstracts must be submitted to the ABEA and to The Laryngoscope by March 9th, 2026. 

Failure to follow abstract submission guidelines may result in the submission being withdrawn.

Foreign Body Submission:

Submission Guidelines:

  1. PDF Format, upload to the drive within the form. 
    Introduction (background, why it matters)
  2. Case presentation (history, exam, diagnostics, treatment, outcome)
  3. Discussion (comparison to literature, clinical lessons)
  4. Conclusion/learning points
  5. References (if pertinent)
  6. Figure upload required (relevant radiographic imaging and/or intraoperative photos)
  7. Do not reference any hospital or institution in the body of the abstract, or reference any other identifiers as abstracts are blinded to the reviewers. 

Video clip upload demonstrating object removal; this is required to be considered for oral presentation and the Ellen M. Friedman Foreign Body Management Award.

Submission Categories

How I Do It (HIDI)

Authors are encouraged to submit for podium presentation of a unique clinical or surgical procedure featuring innovative techniques in a ‘how I do it format’.   The presenter must be an ABEA member and experienced in the technique being demonstrated.    A prerecorded version of the chosen talk is expected and will be posted on the ABEA website following the meeting.    

Panels
Authors are encouraged to submit for panel discussions of a topic of interest to ABEA members.  Submissions should include names of the moderator and 2-3 additional panelists; inclusion of women and URIM participants is welcomed

Foreign Body
Authors are encouraged to submit case reports describing management of an aerodigestive foreign body.  High quality video documentation will be required. The Ellen M. Friedman Foreign Body Management Award along with a $500 prize will be awarded to the one accepted abstract that most demonstrates excellence in the management of aerodigestive foreign bodies.

General Abstracts:    
Original research will be considered for both podium and also poster presentations. 

Below are the awards available for this category. 

  • Koltai Award: This includes a $500 prize and complimentary annual meeting registration. It is given for an outstanding manuscript or accomplishment related to advancement in pediatric airway, swallowing, and/or sleep medicine studies and international missions/outreach.
  • Broyles Maloney Award: This includes a $1,500 prize and is given for an outstanding manuscript, thesis, or accomplishment in endoscopy, bronchology, esophagology, laryngology and related sciences.
  • The Seymour R. Cohen Award for Pediatric Laryngology and Broncho-Esophagology: This includes a $1,000 prize and is presented to a resident, fellow or practicing physician who submits the best original paper in either basic research or clinical investigation pertaining to pediatric laryngology and broncho-esophagology.
  • Steven Dean Gray Award: This includes a $750 first place prize and $500 second place prize. It is awarded to the best 2 original research papers in clinical broncho-esophagology, physiology or pathology of the larynx, tracheobronchial tree or esophagus written by a resident or fellow in training.
  • Poster Awards: Posters submitted to ABEA will be reviewed and scored based on originality, study design and overall impression. Posters placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd place will receive a monetary award ranging from $100-$500 USD.
