Donate to the Cottonoid Young Investigator Award
The American Broncho-Esophagological Association (ABEA) is honored to announce the creation of the Cottonoid Young Investigator Award. This award is dedicated to advancing scientific research in the fields of airway, swallowing, and voice while recognizing the extraordinary contributions of Dr. Robin Cotton to aerodigestive care across all ages.
As an innovator, educator, and leader in our field, Dr. Cotton has profoundly shaped aerodigestive health and trained generations of airway surgeons. To celebrate his remarkable career and honor those he has mentored, this award is affectionately named after the many individuals influenced by his leadership. Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Cotton served as President of the ABEA and was deeply committed to mentoring trainees and future leaders. In his spirit, this award will exist in perpetuity, providing funding to support the next generation of aerodigestive surgeons demonstrating exceptional promise and academic excellence.
To underscore the significance of this award and fundraising effort, the ABEA is committed to matching the funds raised by the Cottonoid community and others touched by Dr. Cotton’s contributions. Donations are tax-deductible as part of our nonprofit mission.
2025 ABEA Young Investigator Award Winner
Congratulations to Dr. Pelin Ergun from the Medical College of Wisconsin for being awarded the 2025 ABEA Young Investigator Award for the project titled, In Vitro Insights into Amprenavir as a Therapy for Pepsin-Induced GERD Inflammation.

ABEA Young Investigator Award
ABEA is excited to announce that we are accepting letters of intent for the Young Investigator Award! This is a yearly $15,000 grant opportunity for young investigators looking to develop lines of research on the aerodigestive tract. The ABEA recognizes that getting started is often the most difficult step. This award was conceived to address that difficulty and to provide support and guidance in that process. This award is designed for current fellows and young faculty.
The Letter of Intent (1 page) is due December 1, 2025 and the Grant Submission is due January 26, 2026.

History of ABEA

Chevalier Quixote Jackson (November 4, 1865 – August 16, 1958) was an American pioneer in laryngology. He is sometimes known as the “father of endoscopy” and was the ABEA Founder.
