ZSNES is an open-source Super Nintendo Entertainment System emulator. It can play dumped ROMS of your SNES games on your computer. The application went public in mid-2001 and the latest update was released in 2007.

As far as emulation goes, ZSNES does a great job across the board. It emulates all the commercial games that I have tried flawlessly and at full speed. It is quite full-featured, too. It supports full-screen mode, and a variety of other resolutions, even custom ones. You can also set the game speed to be slower or faster than the original. There is support for gamepads and you can configure the user controls, even for specific games.

Another great feature is netplay, which allows you to play certain games in multiplayer mode over the Internet. The experience it is not the best but it is nonetheless a great proof of concept.

The only thing bad I can say about this emulator is that it looks very, very ugly. It looks like a computer program from 1987. I know it is quite functional and streamlined, but it looks unpleasant and mouse support is poorly enforced. Snes9X does a much better job at that than ZSNES. Both solutions have their pros and their cons, however.

All in all, ZSNES is a great solution for playing old SNES games, if you don't mind its looks.
