I've been in quite the creative bind where icons are concerned as you can see. I know it seems unfair for me to be updating my personal journal more than I've been updating my graphics community. For that dear members and followers of this comm I'm sorry. I've seen plenty of rants about the owners of icon related communities not updating their communities while they constantly update their personal journals. It would be nice if I could find something to help inspire me where icons are concerned. I figure if I get back into the habit of iconing something again it should help get the creative juices flowing. Every once in a while I pop back to the following little meme for one reason or another. This time, I'm using it to get myself back into the iconing game. So, here's the meme.
Comment on this entry and I'll pick one of your LJ interests and make you an icon. You have no say in what I make an icon of!
I don't really take requests but this meme is a great way to get an icon catered to what you like.

Just as the title says my iconing is on hold for the time being due to the fact that I just got a new computer and I don't have everything set up as I would like it. I'm having someone out on October 30 to help with the safe transfer of all my files and settings so my Photoshop can be on the new computer with the brushes the way I have them. Until then, I'll resort to enjoying what other people make and will be back to iconing in the early part of November.

I realize it's been a while since I updated here. I've been in a creative rut with things but I am slowly making things for a post of graphics again. The focus of what I've been making has slowly drifted away from Avatar: The Last Airbender and more towards things like Pokemon and Tsubasa Chronicles. I've been also participating in icon based contests on Livejournal. However, recently I find myself uninspired to take part in the contests for what is my main fandom of choice. I thought trying out a different type of contest would give me the inspiration I needed but I was treated more as a first time icon maker rather than someone who has been doing this for nearly three years. I know I should not be freaking out over negative feedback on a little 100 pixel square but when the negative does not come with anything positive such as what could be done to make things better. I'm someone who thrives on a good balance of the positive and the negative. When I don't know how to make things better or don't get at least one positive remark on anything I make it hits me pretty hard emotionally. However, that's an issue that's more personal than icon related. Anyhow, I love making graphics but when the people connected with the fandom in question don't make it fun anymore I have to wonder if it's time for me to quit making graphics for the fandom and move on. At the moment, I'm trying to figure out the people I make my graphics for. Am I kidding myself with trying to do icontests for Avatar? Do people really like what I make, or do they follow what I make just because I ask them to join or watch this community? This is where you come in. I made a little poll to kind of gauge what the people watching and following my work think I should be doing. If one fandom isn't giving me the satisfaction and excitement it once did when I make graphics for it then it's time to either move on or take a break from things.

The Deal:
This time around I bring you more stock icons. However, in this batch of icons I tried to find stocks that could represent people and groups found in the Avatar: The Last Airbender world. Also, with the holidays upon us I decided to give my interprutation to the images of the holiday season. The images for these icons come come from sxc.hu (Stock Exchange) and Veer.com. These icons represent my take on those things that make Avatar fans think of their favorite things in the series and those things that make us think about the holidays. There are variations of a good number of my holiday icons giving you a choice in coloring effects to match your style. So please take a look, comment on them, and enjoy.
The Series:[x]Avatar The Last Airbender [x]The Holiday Season The Rules:[x]If you take an icon let me know which one it is [x]No hotlinking as it will eat the bandwith on my Photobucket account [x]Please credit chibihalo or ykkgraphics

I bring you a list of tutorials that have inspired my graphics. The list includes straight out tutorials for icons, great information about things like exclusion layers and what they do, and how to make a nifty border for yourself. Most of these tutorials can be translated from PSP or PS to other programs. There are a few that include curves so they may not be able to translate to PSP. Most of these tutorials are for sources from animation and graphic novels. The real life based tutorials are ones that can be used for animation sources with decent results. For those of you just getting started in icon making I recommend getting a good free program like Gimp. As I find more useful icon tutorials I will add them to this post.
