As dead as this little comm may be right now due to a severe lack of creativity on the LJ icon and tutorial side of things it's not going anywhere. There's a nasty keylogger virus going around LJ lately that strips away moderator controls from people who own communities and posts links to said virus in a message in the community. It makes it appear that the community is shutting down and moving everything off LJ. This is far from the case for ykktutorial and ykkgraphics. Even though I haven't been active a lot lately I'm not shutting these communities down anytime soon. Anything that appears to have come from me saying I did shut them down is a farce. If you see something like that from my account the best non LJ way to contact me at the moment, since I really don't use my IMs much anymore, is to comment to my DA account under the name chibihalo.

Just as the title says my iconing is on hold for the time being due to the fact that I just got a new computer and I don't have everything set up as I would like it. I'm having someone out on October 30 to help with the safe transfer of all my files and settings so my Photoshop can be on the new computer with the brushes the way I have them. Until then, I'll resort to enjoying what other people make and will be back to iconing in the early part of November.

I realize it's been a while since I updated here. I've been in a creative rut with things but I am slowly making things for a post of graphics again. The focus of what I've been making has slowly drifted away from Avatar: The Last Airbender and more towards things like Pokemon and Tsubasa Chronicles. I've been also participating in icon based contests on Livejournal. However, recently I find myself uninspired to take part in the contests for what is my main fandom of choice. I thought trying out a different type of contest would give me the inspiration I needed but I was treated more as a first time icon maker rather than someone who has been doing this for nearly three years. I know I should not be freaking out over negative feedback on a little 100 pixel square but when the negative does not come with anything positive such as what could be done to make things better. I'm someone who thrives on a good balance of the positive and the negative. When I don't know how to make things better or don't get at least one positive remark on anything I make it hits me pretty hard emotionally. However, that's an issue that's more personal than icon related. Anyhow, I love making graphics but when the people connected with the fandom in question don't make it fun anymore I have to wonder if it's time for me to quit making graphics for the fandom and move on. At the moment, I'm trying to figure out the people I make my graphics for. Am I kidding myself with trying to do icontests for Avatar? Do people really like what I make, or do they follow what I make just because I ask them to join or watch this community? This is where you come in. I made a little poll to kind of gauge what the people watching and following my work think I should be doing. If one fandom isn't giving me the satisfaction and excitement it once did when I make graphics for it then it's time to either move on or take a break from things.

The Deal:

This time around I bring you more stock icons. However, in this batch of icons I tried to find stocks that could show us Valentine's Day in every part of the world. From the traditional symbols of Valentine's Day with heart shapped candy boxes,cake decorations, and cookies to the abstract with plants, unusually shapped every day items, and that clever twist of the wrist atop our coffee Valentine's Day can be in all parts of our lives. The images for these icons come come from Veer.com. These icons are also an experiment in giving my photo stock icons a nice soft dreamy look without using a ton of layers and minimum color layers. The Deal:

This year I decided to take part in a pair of icontests once again. In the past, I had given icontests a try and had become disappointed in them. Having given up on doing any icontests at all, I came into the first new icontest I joined with reservations. I was only going to do a few weeks to see if I could place at all. Placing in the icontest soon became the furthest thing from my mind as I began to enjoy taking part in the icontest. Then, thirteen weeks ago I saw a post over at avatar_fans for a new icontest starting. I knew if I got in on one from the ground up I could stand a better chance of helping out and possibly placing because there wouldn't be established members to compete against. Everyone was on equal footing. So now that I have been in each icontest for a while I have decided the time has come for all of you to have the chance to use the icons I made for each theme for both iconbenders and avatarstillness. The Deal:

Last Friday Nick premired a new episode of Avatar. The Earth King brought us back inside the walled fortress that is Ba-Sing-Se. Full of action, suprises, and a strange trip inside Zuko's mind this episode is a great set up for the season finale. Thanks to whoresque we have a ton of great screen caps to work with. So armed with more tutorial techniques I made yet another batch of icons. Here we have a lot of general icons and a couple of shippy icons. These icons come from the episode only and the teasers are non spoilery. In this post I tried to make each icon diferent from the last but as I found I liked some techniques quite a bit I repeated the coloring on a few icons. Take a look, comment on them, and enjoy.
