I went from volunteering with Muslim refugees because I thought Islamophobia was the most pressing issue in Australia (lol, 20-yr-old-woman mentality) to coming to question whether Islam is compatible with Australian values. @CMechtaly explains how my instinct to care was also

It's crazy that Jews can't safely wear a Star of David or other outwardly Jewish symbols in Sydney's Western Suburbs, yet, in Rose Bay Coles, I saw a chick in a hijab and her partner proudly wearing a Free Palestine shirt which showed a map of Israel replaced with Palestine.

I checked in on my friend who lives in Bandar Abbas (southern Iran). He’s fine. I asked him where he was sheltering, he said at home. Then it clicked. Iranians don’t need bomb shelters because Israel doesn’t target civilian areas (unless they’re infiltrated, as in Gaza). Yet all
