Unprecedented thing about modern life is that the whole generational wealth transfer stuff has become handing off the estate from someone in their 90s to someone in their 70s and whatever gain you'd get from that literally doesn't matter because you're already retirement age.

Are there people who willingly buy scented garbage bags? I assume they just exist to infuriate people when they get home and realize they've accidentally bought a box of them. A special circle of hell reserved for the people who make these things, probably.

What makes your wife your soul mate or whatever isn't that she was the only person you possibly could have built a life with. She's your soul mate because you actually *did* build a life with her. It's the process that binds you to her. You put in the word. Did the reps.

I think it discourages both men and women as they look for the perfect fish in a small pond. Lifetime mates can be found anywhere. Finding the “perfect” one is impossible as any marriage is a ton of work. We don’t discuss it enough.

Health Insurance in the United States is the most ridiculously allocated good we have. If you are poor? Free insurance. If you work a large corporation? Cheap insurance If you qualify for some weird handout? Cheap insurance Literally everyone else? Extort to breaking.

The beautiful thing about children is the specific child you get could only have been conceived in that exact moment in time. Any other moment and they would have been someone else. And so, by loving that child, you are allowed to make peace with everything that came before.

Selling our old house, "Did you guys make any upgrades?" "Well, the north wall isn't rotting anymore. Also the water to the kitchen doesn't freeze one a week through the winter anymore" "Okay, but I mean like actual upgrades. The trim is kind of outdated."

You need to make sure your wife eats during the day. You need to be feeding her breakfast at 4pm when she says she just feels terrible and doesn't know why but it definitely has nothing to do with her having only eaten a cookie so far in the day.

My wife told me earlier that she figured I hated her and the baby because I wasn't as excited about it as she was and I had to point out that from my perspective the baby is entirely theoretical at this point. What I know about the baby is that my wife sleeps a lot lately.

Talked to someone this evening who said, "We'd have a fourth, but my husband's truck only fits three" Which is the same thing we always said, and I'd guess that's the number one thing keeping 3 kid families from turning into four five or six kid families.
