always amazes me how adaptable kids are bc when i told my (9) year old sister that i was Autistic & needed her to do things like text me BEFORE you call or when asking a question give a lot of detail and she was like ‘okay no problem!!’ but my mom cried and said i ruined her life

- i need a scientific explanation for why it’s easier to clean whenever you’re the only person in the house
- *parents, visibly upset but not saying why* me, an Autistic kid: what’s going on? parents: you know what you did, why would you even ask that? me: i dont actually, can you tell me? parents: if you don’t know then you clearly just don’t care, go to your room me: what the fuck
- charging your kids rent to live in their childhood bedroom after a certain age is just evil i don’t care if you disagree
- so cool how many social cues you miss as an Autistic kid bc i remember being invited over to a girls house to paint her room a fun design & SLEEPOVER but when i was done painting i heard her say ‘mom, she’s done. make an excuse to take her home now, i don’t even want her here’ 🫠
- me, autistic: hey if the test is open book do i need to take down this formula poster? *shows poster on zoom call* teacher: nah… i don’t see it 🤷♀️ me, autistic: oh sorry here *moves the laptop closer* teacher: …no, Amber, i don’t SEE it… it’s fine to keep up…
- being direct with Autistics: indirect: this place is a mess and i have work! *sigh* i dont know how im going to get this all done (implying they want help cleaning it while they’re gone) VS direct: the house is messy and i dont have time to clean it, could you tidy up please?
- parents: youre not Autistic. its genetic, that would mean that one of us is too meanwhile: *one parent has an extremely obscure special collection youre not allowed to touch, gets weirded out when things arent done a certain way & avoids specific things bc they ‘don’t like it’*
- neurotypicals: why are you so weird? you're really weird but i can’t figure out why me: idk I'm Autistic, maybe that’s it neurotypicals: but then why are you so normal? you're really normal
- what Autistics really mean when they ask for direct communication: Indirect: “Jeez, it’s SUCH a nice day outside. Wouldn’t you just love to be at the beach, huh? I bet it would be so great to be there, if only…” Direct: “Weathers good today. Do you want to go to the beach?”
- a lot of people don’t get diagnosed as Autistic because the criteria for being diagnosed is based on how inconvenient Autism is for the people around us and not how it actually feels to be an Autistic person on the inside
- “it’s not that big of a deal, small change doesnt affect Autistic people” please explain that to my sister who is completely devastated by the fact that Minecraft on the iPad has changed the button order of one specific menu and has asked me 200 times why they’ve done this
