Reading further into this online, she was autistic, had depression, anxiety and a personality disorder, her father passed away and she was estranged from mother and siblings. I'm 28 and this is scarily similar to my life and like...I get it.
This is why autism being this accepted quirky thing is not part of reality. What you're essentially saying is "Are you disabled? Do you have clear deficits in communication?"
one time i asked this girl if she was autistic and she got so mad and ranted about it for a bit before saying "why the fuck would you ask me that?"
i told her its because im autistic and was just curious
and i think thats the most embarrassed iv ever seen somebody look
People say just don't tell the employer but my diagnosis isn't what makes me autistic. I ACT differently. Employers pick up on that regardless of knowing what you are specifically. THAT is why I struggle to find a job.
My autistic son, who is autistic and intelligent, left University in 2021 with a 2:1 degree. Since then he has applied for hundreds of jobs. He has had only two online interviews. He wants a job but employers donโt want to employ people with autism, how to change this(?).#bbcqt
My roommate was early diagnosed, I was late diagnosed, and often we exchanged stories. And I noticed all we ever said was "that must have been hard." "Man that sucks." "I'm sorry that happened to you." Not, "You're lucky and privileged."
Y'all gotta be a lil more patient with people trying to recapture some of their stolen years from things like trauma and such. If a grown ass adult who pays bills want's to wear princess dresses they fucking can. You got those years and they didn't.
The older I get the more starkly I'm reminded that autism is a disability. Maybe if you're a teen or some shit it's a superpower, but for the average grown ass adult noone even has any patience for any of the "positives."
It's extremely upsetting and I wish there had been another option. But for her there wasn't, she was literally told there wasn't. I have nothing I can say except, I fucking get it.
