I didn’t realise just how much the luxury German brands have been losing sales to Asian brands until I read a @BusinessTechSA story, published yesterday: “In 2014, luxury brands such as Audi, BMW, Mini, and Mercedes-Benz collectively sold around 74,015 vehicles in South Africa.

To the rental agents & landlords who specify a 2-month notice period in their lease agreements, and the tenants who believe they can: the Consumer Protection Act gives tenants the right to give 20 business days’ notice (essentially a month) & it trumps a lease agreement

Me in the Natal Mercury newsroom, 1989. No internet, no social media, no Google Maps, not even a fax machine! Just the Atex system, a landline, and a lot of paper. Outside the office we used phone booths! Hard to imagine now.

The number of people over the age of 65 who are losing their savings to fraudsters pretending to be calling them from their bank’s fraud division - and tricking them into divulging their PINs etc- is shocking. Please warn the older people in your life! 🙏🙏🙏

Please tip your waiter/waitress, in cash, if you can. If you add the tip to your card payment, they may have to share it with colleagues. And/or the restaurant may deduct bank fees of about 5%, often on the total amount and not just tip portion. All illegal but common practices.

Walmart announced today that it will be opening stores in SA - selling groceries, household goods, clothes and tech- before the end of the year. Details re store locations and opening dates to be announced next month.

Thanks to a recent SCA ruling, your car dealership (and financing bank) have to break down that extra “dealership” or “on-the-road” or “delivery” fee for you. Transparency! The buyer of a used car at a franchised dealer in KZN had to ask for the breakdown of his R9900 “delivery”

Here’s a novel idea, multi-plug designers: how about allowing S-P-A-C-E between the 2-prongs and 3-prong sockets so that we can use all of them as intended? Two of these 3-prong sockets are now un-usable. Not fit for purpose! 😡 #youhadonejob

Economic suicide indeed. This trend horrifies and terrifies me. Millions of South Africans view gambling as a source of income. But the house always wins. Always. If in doubt, take a look at the gambling industry’s profits.

R1.5 trillion is R4.1bn in gambling turnover every single day no single industry in SA has grown at 47% per year -- except gambling South Africa's GDP is expected to grow at a dismal 1.6% next year with 60%+ youth unemployment this is literally economic suicide

Two problems with this sign, ⁦@EdgarsFashion⁩ - there’s no E in lay-by and the thing about this form of payment is that you can’t have it now; only when you’ve paid it off (without interest).
