Yesterday afternoon, @GovInslee shared the great news that all school employees will now be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine at the same time. We have urged districts to work in partnership with local vaccine providers on ways to expedite the process for our school staff. (1/2)

Heads up: There is an unfortunate April fools' joke circulating claiming @GovInslee is requiring all students to repeat this year's grade next year. This is NOT TRUE. #WAedu

“I will not authorize, permit, or distribute any resources to support efforts to arm teachers. State law is clear that our schools are gun-free zones for teachers and students. The law allows exceptions for commissioned police officers on our school grounds, and for designated and trained school…” from “Reykdal: Washington State will not Arm its Teachers” by The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Yesterday, the House Education Committee passed HB 1664, which would increase the number of staff in schools to support student mental health & well-being. The Committee amended the bill to require every public school to have at least one nurse and one counselor on site. #WAedu

House Bill 1664 passed out of the House Education Committee and is now headed to the Appropriations Committee for consideration. While the original bill would increase the number of school nurses, the Education Committee recognized the need for more staff supporting student mental health and well-being, and amended the bill to also increase the number of school social workers, psychologists, and counselors!

“Schools matter. Not just for the content, but how kids interact...and the social-emotional learning...For right now, lets be the ultra human beings we can in shared sacrifice together to get over the hurdle together. I know the state of WA will lead the nation in that way.” —CR
"I would challenge you once more to not be Democrats today or Republicans or Eastside or Westside, or rural or urban...we are Washingtonians today and our communities need us to be extraordinarily outside of our boundaries," said State Superintendent Chris Reykdal Friday.
