Indians traveling in America: Please don’t be like this clown. Restaurants in America pay _less_ than minimum wage precisely b/c customers are expected to tip. If you eat out, tip 20% minimum, unless gratuity is included. Restaurant workers depend on it.
Tipping is such a scam in New York!💀 Why do I pay extra just because restaurants pay minimum hourly wages? Ordered a crepe, club sandwich and Panini for $45(Rs. 3800). We paid $50 cash and the waiter just took the rest as tip. I asked for change and she said "you have to pay

Food service workers in NYC cannot legally be paid less than the minimum wage of $15/hr. There is a tip credit of up to $5.35/hr, which allows employers to pay $10.65/hr with tips making up the difference. However, they must cover the difference if tips don’t. dol.ny.gov/minimum-wage-t…

Rarely does a single tweet so effectively embody the obsolescence of an entire class of people, but here it is. India would've been better off sending these people back with the British in 1947.

Me: "I want to find a recipe for egg curry." The NYT recipe: "Under the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the surge of pro-vegetarian Hindu nationalism..." No one on earth more banal than desi NYT writers

.@meenaharris boldly spoke out on the farmer protests despite facing vitriol, refusing to be "silenced or intimidated." Will she now urge her aunt's administration to export critical vaccine materials to help the same Indians she claims to care about?

Last time I was in India relative took me to a mall in Mumbai that was like a museum of washed up American brands that are all now considered "high end" in India (e.g., Fossil). This is a recurring theme.

Indian celebrities deploying niche American idioms/memes when they live in a country (physically anyway) where like 10% of the pop knows English will never not be weird to me. Naipaul’s mimic men brought to life.

The dark underbelly of “south asian” politics in the diaspora
Legitimately insane that Zohran Mamdani was happy to attend a rally where people screamed racial abuse against Hindus Beautiful sectarianism on display

    Replying to @LekhakAnurag
If the customer comes to America, eats out a restaurant where it is the custom to tip 20%, and doesn't do so b/c they take issue with that custom, then yes, the customer is a clown. How do you feel when international tourists come to India and don't respect/follow local customs?

It's hard to overstate the amount of ignorance packed into this one tweet. Really wish more prominent Indian Americans would just go full Bobby Jindal and come to the realization that their ethnic background is no substitute for actual knowledge.

The Dismantling Hindutva Conference isn't actually about dismantling hindutva b/c dismantling any political movement requires understanding, and based on the speakers invited, it's abundantly clear that understanding isn't the goal. 1/n
