- since next month is ADHD awareness month, i want to educate some people on what it actually is coming from someone with ADHD:

- Replying to @vampetude1) “people with adhd are “dumb”” well, no. we aren’t, those comments about people’s intelligence are why a lot don’t get properly diagnosed. we aren’t less smarter than neurotypicals, it’s just harder for us to understand how to do tasks, as well as being focused on something-
- Replying to @vampetude2) “we don’t try hard enough in school” ah, now with this. the thing is that we do try hard in school and out to try to get as good as our neurotypical peers. however due to things such as distractions ect, it is again way harder to revise for tests and do online work
- Replying to @vampetude4: “it isn’t neurodivergent” so the term neurodivergent literally means “neurological disorder” so people with ADHD are neurodivergent. other neurological disorders are: dyspraxia, autism, dyslexia, dysgraphia and others.
- Replying to @vampetudeelse at that time. it doesn’t stunt someone’s intelligence, which is why it took me so long to get a diagnosis due to these misconceptions.
- Replying to @vampetude3) the name behind ADHD: so, ADHD stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. but this isn’t what it actually means. the name was coined by neurotypicals as well as teachers. however, this label is perfectly acceptable but being aware of its origins is key.
