My grandpa used to say “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” The 1st time I was old enough to get it, I said “That’s not fair!” He said “Exactly! So make it your life’s work to ensure everyone meets each other.” He’s 2 decades gone, but I’m still at it. #advocacy #MedEd

My husband is on service treating pts w/ #COVID19 too. Here’s where he’s sleeping for the next month. Important for people to recognize how much healthcare workers are pouring their hearts into caring for pts & trying to keep their families safe.

The more I think about airlines abruptly allowing mask removal w/o warning—mid-flight for many—the angrier I get. People who are #immunocompromised had no choice not to travel or to upgrade their protection at that point. Some will go on to die. As an oncologist, I am enraged.

The US has performed its first double lung transplant for lung damage caused by #COVID19. The recipient is a 20 yr old woman. She remains on a ventilator at this time. The damage inflicted by #SARSCoV2 is stunning. Via @nytimes nytimes.com/2020/06/11/hea…

Good for @Delta. Rule 1: Never make a rule you aren’t prepared to enforce. Delta returned to the gate & removed 2 passengers who refused to wear masks on board. Those passengers are now among 100+ permanently banned from the airline. 👏👏 msn.com/en-us/news/pol…

Life in the US in Jan-Feb 2022 is going to be almost unrecognizable to most Americans. Even the people who have managed to pretend #COVID19 wasn’t happening are about to get a major wakeup call. When we call 911 & no one comes, when we literally cannot enter the ER for crowds…

Well, I got 2 messages before 9am from friends telling me they have #COVID19 in their households. And in the 12 mins since, I’ve just heard about 4 more. So Merry Exponential Growth #Omicron #Christmas. 🌲 😫 A quick 🧵 on what to do if that’s you since I’m typing it anyway.

The first few months of 2021 in the US are going to be much harder than the entire year of 2020. Every doctor knows this. You deserve to be told. #COVID19 #pandemic

I was a dr before the Affordable Care Act. And people w/ cancer did hit lifetime caps & had further treatment denied by insurers. They were dropped from plans, declared bankruptcy, & died. We are NEVER EVER going back to that. #PresidentialDebate2024 #MedTwitter

The American public needs a clear message. It does not appear to be coming, so here's my best attempt. If you are able to, you should: STAY HOME, STARTING NOW. #MedTwitter #Omicron

I know personally 3 people receiving monoclonal antibodies this evening. All have had 3 doses of #COVID19 #vaccine or prior infection + 2 doses of vaccine. All are careful. They all have risk factors, but all are pretty symptomatic. Jan is gonna be…rough. #MaskUp. #Omicron

In case you missed it: Women are less likely to be credited for their scientific contributions than men. It’s true across multiple fields & at all stages, with important repercussions for career progress. #WomenInSTEM #WomenInMedicine #MedTwitter nature.com/articles/s4158…
