- Struggling to find the right words so for right now I will say that the WNY girls sports community lost an absolute pillar today with the passing of Roger Weiss. Roger was a great friend in recent years. All of us covering girls bball have impossible shoes to fill. RIP Rog.
- What a season for WNY women's basketball. UB leading the charge with another MAC title, Daemen in the last 16 of D2 tourney, Niagara and Canisius on the rise, D'Youville wins USCAA nat'l tourney. Fun stuff.
- Had some time to reflect on the 23/24 season on the drive home. Will try to gather my thoughts and give a full wrap-up in the coming days but I just want to thank all of the players, coaches and supporters of girls basketbal for a tremendous season. Keep grinding and working.
- One of the most successful program builders and best recruiters in recent WNY history. Tremendous hire.Nate Beutel to Join Women’s Basketball Staff as Assistant Coach/Director of Basketball Operations 🔗 ubbulls.com/news/2025/5/21… #UBhornsUP
- I hope everyone in WNY truly appreciates the greatness we have been lucky enough to watch/cover the past number of seasons in the play of Kyla Hayes and Madison Francis. To have one player at that level is rare for a given area...2 at the same time, almost unheard of.
- A word for Starpoint, one of the most consistent and talented WNY teams over the past number of seasons and one that truly embodied that word...team. Deep, balanced and simply solid in a region largely made up of star driven squads.
- Frewsburg defeats Stillwater 59-44. FREWSBURG ARE YOUR 2025 CLASS C CHAMPIONS. First section VI girls state champion since 2019. An incredible team. Congratulations Frewsburg!
- Shout out to Ella Corry as she ends a tremendous high school career...unique skill set, Uber effective game. Always fun to watch play.
- When @beckyburke11 took over, THIS is the team you knew we would see at Alumni. Tough, high compete level, motors for 40 mins. 3-1 in MAC play with 1 returning player, that doesn't just happen without major work. Big things are coming.
- I am not always a huge proponent of all league, all area, all state, etc teams...but how can anyone not have Jordyn Williams as a 1st team MMA player? One of the best defenders in the state, does all of the meaningful things that may not show up on the scoresheet.
- It's that time of year when HS careers end every night but want to recognize two fantastic careers finishing this evening, Molly Mescall as well as Mallory Heise(Hilton). Two of the most offensively gifted players I have covered & two who will likely be even better in college.
- There have been some tremendous performances and feats locally this season but to drop 50 in a battle of a game, against a huge rival, with an unbeaten league season on the line...that's the most impressive one I've seen this season. Business as usual for Kyla Hayes.
- Large school: 1 - O'Hara 2 - St Mary's 3 - Starpoint 4 - Lancaster 5 - Lew Port 6 - Will South 7 - Ken West 8 - Hamburg 9 - Nichols 10 - Clarence
