As a Buddhist, I oppose mass deportations. End tweet.
As a Catholic, I support mass deportations—despite the USCCB’s non-binding pastoral guidance. Here’s why: 1. God ordains distinct nations (sovereignty & solidarity). 2. Authority exists for the common good of each. 3. The common good demands ordered love (subsidiarity) and

I don’t like JK Rowling as much as the next person but can we stop blaming everything we ever liked as kids on trauma?

I liked Harry Potter books because they were easy to read and fun. There isn’t some big internal gotcha for why people liked popular things.

Ten years from now y’all are gonna say we only watched Game of Thrones because we lived during income inequality and wanted a fantasy world where nobody has unfair advantages or some wild take like that

Reminds me of when I was outted in middle school by someone who found a story I wrote about a crush and my school suspended me for it. That’s how my mom found out I was gay. Sitting in the principal’s office. This is what happens when schools don’t protect student’s privacy.

Didn’t realize until years later how messed up it was that instead of punishing my classmate for going through my private things, I got punished for “writing about someone without their permission”. And was forced to talk about being gay with my very conservative family for it.

A lot of these bad history takes happen because people confuse imperialism with colonialism. Portugal wanted to treat Japan like it treated the Swahili states, southern India, and Malacca. Japan was targeted with imperialism, successfully resisted it, and so avoided colonialism.

People confused by this have clearly never had that one family member who uses random unintelligible analogies to complain “You young people have it so good! I used to hike up Mt. Hibok-Hibok and carry five barrels of rice! You think you got the lime in the coconut?”

Parents who think “what could my child have to hide?” don’t think about how traumatizing it is to be forced to discuss something you aren’t remotely ready to discuss. Especially when it’s something you’re afraid of getting punished, or in many cases, harmed for.

“Half clothed honey” Do you realize he was using zoom from a bedroom? If you existed during the pandemic, stuff like this happened all the time with spouses wandering into your zoom background by accident People laughed about it and moved on

Is this supposed to be scandalous? Is he an anti-gay Republican caught in the act or something?
