A flag’s sole purpose is to unite a people around a common cause. Reality has proven clear that the Mississippi flag no longer unites, but divides us unnecessarily. I will not sit by idly while our college athletes lose their hard earned right to compete in post season play....

- Here’s my perspective. If Mississippi College, who has a football program that’s 117 years old and full of tradition, can no longer “afford” to have a football program then Delta State, Alcorn, Mississippi Valley and all of our 15 community colleges in Mississippi cannot afford
- Replying to @tlamar44before our home state fans over a banner that no longer accomplishes its sole mission to unify our people. I will stand up for our student athletes. It is time to change the flag. It is the right thing to do.
- Today is a really big day for Mississippi and her people. A day that the rest of the world saw the Mississippi I’ve known my entire life. That can’t be overstated. - Me
- One day Mike Leach showed up at my Capitol office. We talked football & law practice. He told me football coaching paid better than lawyering. He was carrying around an extra sausage & biscuit in his coat pocket & he spilled the water pitcher on the Ways & Means conference table.
- The eyes of the Nation are on us, Mississippi. Will we do the right thing?"With any luck, sports might be the final straw that breaks the Confederate camel’s back" @RossDellenger on the Mississippi flag, the NCAA and the battle for change in Jackson: trib.al/o2BZT0E
- Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe. - Frederick Douglass
- I am honored to serve as Mississippi’s next Ways & Means Chairman. To Speaker Phillip Gunn & the many who have supported me I say thank you & I look forward to working toward the betterment of all Mississippians. @PhilipGunnMS #msleg
- God’s glory, 62 degrees on August 5 and a hot cup of coffee. Nice start to my 40th birthday. Thankful!
- Leaving the capital at midnight on the last day of this extraordinary 6 month legislative session. The sacrifice is worth it knowing we are improving the future of the ones waiting at home. My wife has made great sacrifice at home to allow me to serve - she is my rock! @JALamar44
- After a long week at the capital addressing complicated issues, I am pleased to be at home this evening and would like to introduce everyone to the new Lamar family cat. Boys named him Larry.
- As a former Reb, accompanying @PhilipGunnMS to deliver the new Mississippi flag to @OleMissFB this week & then watching the team take the field with it last night was pretty special. Glad my boys got to be part of it. They will understand more one day. Thanks @Lane_Kiffin
- Heartbroken. As a former Choctaw football player, I know I speak for thousands who demand a better explanation than this. What a poor effort of explaining such a major decision that affects so many & guts the future of this historic football program.
- Ford’s first ever home run. Nothing like it. Glad to be back at the ballpark.
