Now that the effort by some quarters of Film Twitter to trash Maestro has come to an apparently successful end, may I take a moment to pay tribute to a victim of its collateral damage? It’s the beautifully detailed and heartbreaking work by Carey Mulligan, who deserved better.

- My FYC: I'M STILL HERE as Best International Feature. Oscar voters, please consider Walter Salles' gut punch of a film that weaves a powerful political warning on right-wing authoritarianism (that’s all too relevant today) with an emotionally charged family drama. #ImStillHereDear Academy Members – For Your Consideration For The 2025 #Oscars #Oscars2025 #Oscar #AcademyAwards #AwardsSeason #Awards #AMPAS #FYC #ForYourConsideration #SingSing #Conclave #Anora #Wicked #ImStillHere #Movies #Film #Cinema #FilmTwitter #FilmX nextbestpicture.com/dear-academy-m…
- What once seemed to be the longest of long shots may soon become a reality for #FernandaTorres and #ImStillHere if #SonyPicturesClassics can follow the same path they used to engineer Anthony Hopkins’ come-from-behind acting victory for “The Father.” I have a few thoughts…The Power Of Timing & Sony Pictures Classics: How Fernanda Torres Could Win The #Oscar For #BestActress By @thomaseobrien #Oscars2025 #FernandaTorres #ImStillHere #Oscars #AcademyAwards #AwardsSeason #Awards #FYC #Movies #Film #Cinema #FilmTwitter #FilmX nextbestpicture.com/the-power-of-t…
- Oscar voting ends today, and to any voters out there who haven't finished their ballots, may I suggest taking a look at the #NBP team's worthy picks for your consideration, including my plea to consider Brazil's gut punch of an entry, #ImStillHere, as Best International Feature.Dear Academy Members – For Your Consideration For The 2025 #Oscars #Oscars2025 #Oscar #AcademyAwards #AwardsSeason #Awards #AMPAS #FYC #ForYourConsideration #SingSing #Conclave #Anora #Wicked #ImStillHere #Movies #Film #Cinema #FilmTwitter #FilmX nextbestpicture.com/dear-academy-m…
- #TAR, the first film in 16 years by Todd Field, is deliberately cold, shot in palettes of blue and grey, plus a heroine to whom audiences may not easily warm. But no matter, because she’s played by Cate Blanchett, who conquers this monster of a role. She is triumphant. #Venezia79
- #TheSon, the extraordinary prequel to The Father, examines the damage that errant fathers can do to their sons and how that can be passed on to the next generation. Hugh Jackman delivers a powerhouse performance, with an equally stellar supporting cast. Bring tissues. #Venezia79
- With the decision by Jenny the Donkey to go supporting for BANSHEES (thought by many Oscar pundits to be a questionable move), that now clears the path for EO in the Best Lead Donkey category. It's EO's to lose.
- (1/2) I've just received my ballot for the 2025 WGA Awards, and the following screenplays are ineligible: ORIGINAL All We Imagine As Light The Brutalist A Different Man Didi Hard Truths His Three Daughters I Saw the TV Glow The Seed of the Sacred Fig September 5 The Substance
- POOR THINGS is thrilling cinema. Bold direction by Yorgos Lanthimos, a wild script adaptation by Tony McNamara, striking design & cinematography and a career-best performance from Emma Stone. Not to mention Mark Ruffalo who’s a comic revelation. #PoorThings #NYFF61
- Just why Walter Salles’ I’M STILL HERE works so well as a family/political drama is thanks to a 1st act filled with a loving & caring family. So when Dad Is snatched by the Brazilian dictatorship, you achingly feel his absence. FYI Fernanda Torres is superb. #ImStillHere #AFIFEST
- BEING THE RICARDOS is not the movie I expected…because it’s good. Very good, in fact, and easily Aaron Sorkin’s best effort as director. Kidman proves the skeptics wrong (including me), and Sorkin has given real moments to shine to each of his first-rate cast. #BeingTheRicardos
- Martin Scorsese has given us much to chew on in KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, and tho familiar Scorsese themes recur, its focus on the unspeakable evils perpetrated on Indigenous people (personified by Lily Gladstone's Molly) eclipse any of the criminality of his early films. Yet..
