It always boggles my mind that people have been reading and rereading the same white modern philosophers for 300 years and still having debates about what their arguments mean while people pick up any book of theory from black studies and hope to understand it immediately.
When I think about how many people live with suicidal ideation, I start to immediately think about how deep our resistance is to allowing suicidal thoughts to be spoken freely. It all makes think about how so much of this world is experienced in silence + made into an obscurity.
Sylvia Wynter once said: “I want to sound in theory the way Aretha Franklin sounds in song.”
Question: If you can sound in theory, the way one artist sounds in song, who would it be?
For me, I would probably say somewhere between Juice Wrld + Trippie Redd.
I think Black Studies has a fundamental and specific, while not necessarily exclusive mission and that mission is to try and save the Earth.

In the academy where one can write about suicide, but thou shalt not be suicidal. In the academy, where one can write about sex work, but thou shalt not be a sex worker. In the academy, where one can write about black rage, but thou shalt not produce it...
All that has happened with “the concept of celebrity” is expansion. Micro-celebrities. Macro-celebrities. Niche-celebrities. Local-celebrities. Celebrities of fields with no celebrities. Celebrities of fields. Twitter celebrities. Instagram celebrities. Celebrities everywhere.
I wanna go out on a limb and say I hate when black professors get so offended that someone confused them with a janitor or a food service worker. I feel like it’s the kind of classism and elitism that allows for us to think that somehow a PhD means we deserve special treatment.
The University is intellectually responsible for the stable reproduction of every apparatus of domination that exists today and tomorrow. The World is legitimated, reified, and perpetuated in and through the University. We are trainers of cops, prisons guards, and con(gress)myn.
I think it's funny how in Black Studies we get upset about not fully understanding the Black theory we are reading on the first try when the canon of philosophical thought in the West has reiterated the importance of rereading the same White dudes for over 200+ years.
!sometimes! you don’t have to check or drag your family. you just have to be there to introduce them to a different modality of imagining what is possible/ethical/unjustifiable in this World because sometimes the process of re-thinking/un-thinking is slow.
