WOKE PUBLISHING: A THREAD. This morning I listened to novelist Graham Taylor explaining, on the Jeremy Vine show, about how he and other white middle-class men are being discriminated against. His main evidence was his difficulty in getting his twenty-fifth book published. (1/12)

This is your weekly reminder that it's legal to murder people in books. Crime fiction: the smarter choice for stone cold revenge. ™️

It IS in the hands of the police now. Investigations like this are often the thing that tips police into action and victims into feeling supported enough to come forward.

This is about understanding the difference between "we need to stop using fossil fuels in the next five years to stop humanity ultimately being wiped out" and "humanity will be wiped out in five years." It's the former, and it's intensely scary and real.

If this calculator says anything but "almost none of it" then it's a massive misrepresentation. In 2016, the ONS reported only £2.2bn went to the unemployed - out of a total £253bn spent on welfare. Only 804,000 were unemployed that year so is it "millions"?

(12/12) Likewise, pretty much every book chart is still dominated by white, middle-class authors. We are everywhere. A shift is long overdue. And if publishers are making that happen, it's cause for celebration. It isn't hurting us: it's helping people who have long been hurt.

Someone just suggested a pub crawl to bakeries and OMG, can we do one to bookshops?! The way I see it, we turn up, each race to choose a book, buy it and read a chapter, then move on. If we plot it with bookshops that have cafes we can have tea and cake at the same time 😁😁

Wow, that's nothing like how I feel. I'd say the pain of losing this is akin to the pain of losing lives senselessly to bullying, racist attacks, homophobia, and misogyny. But there you go!
