In response to @DrBrianMay's appearance on @BBCTheOneShow to promote "Brian May: The Badgers, the Farmers, and Me", where he dismissed peer-reviewed science on badgers and TB, AHDB's lead vet Sarah Tomlinson @sjtomo157 addresses the importance of sticking to facts.

We’re disappointed and concerned @Channel4 and @zanlandfilms haven’t consulted us in the making of ‘The Big British Beef Battle’. As an evidence-based public body, we feel it’s important that shows like this represent all sides and not be selective to fit a certain narrative. /1

UPDATE: AHDB has issued a complaint to OFCOM highlighting that the programme was incredibly biased against beef with very limited scientific evidence. There was undue focus on the global situation and the presenter's opinions against beef were too apparent and forthright. /1

We have sent a letter to the BBC, challenging them on a claim made in an online article - “The single biggest way to reduce your environmental impact on the planet is to modify your diet to include less meat.” Read the full letter, here 👇

We're deeply concerned that "Brian May: The Badgers, the Farmers, and Me" risks oversimplifying the complex issue of bovine TB, potentially misleading viewers by placing undue blame on cattle. It's essential that coverage of such critical topics is accurate and evidence-based. /1

Hi @ChrisGPackham, it’s a shame you think this is propaganda as we pride ourselves on being evidence-based and have worked closely with the ASA to ensure Let’s Eat Balanced is factual and accurate. 1/6

Hello @RichardAyoade . You are funny . But this isn’t . You’ve been conned - this cynical & dangerous propaganda is harmful beyond your worst nightmare @DefraGovUK @TheAHDB & goes against all scientific advice . You might want to pull the plug on it desmog.com/2024/01/19/gov…

"Eating less meat 'like taking 8m cars off road'". AHDB is disappointed to see this headline and a study from @UniofOxford @oxfutureoffood @Pete_Scarbs conveying simplistic conclusions to a very complex topic. Here's everything that's wrong with it 👇🧵

Without grazing ruminants, more than 60% of agricultural land in the UK would be taken out of food production, because it is NOT suitable for cropping. 📣Use our resouces so you can share the facts about agriculture, red meat & the environment📣 ow.ly/28yT50xj7Gv

AHDB is disappointed with BBC Two’s "Brian May: The Badgers, The Farmers and Me." Despite our efforts to provide accurate, peer-reviewed evidence on bovine TB and the impact of badger culling, key facts were omitted. We'll be reflecting on the programme and next steps.

.@TheAHDB is not trying to stop the programme but advocates for a balanced, evidence-based discussion. TB is a complex issue, and accurate information is crucial. It's not about silencing voices but ensuring that all perspectives, especially those rooted in science, are heard.

After a week of @TheAHDB and another trying to stop you seeing our program this George Orwell statement seemed very appropriate at the BBC last night - If liberty means anything at all it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear George Orwell

Claims by Quorn and the BBC, on the environmental impact of red meat in the UK, have been successfully challenged by AHDB. As a result, this information has now been amended on its websites to reflect current scientific research. Read more 👉 ow.ly/D3mw50yHSEc

Over the weekend, several articles incorrectly stated the global livestock figure of 14% for the emissions of British cattle. We have written to the publications to share the correct figure - British cows (beef and dairy) emit 5% of total UK emissions (naei.beis.gov.uk).
