I have created a MyPlayer on NBA 2K and played online competitively every year since Pro Am began in 2K16. Every year, my day 1 build is still viable through the end of the year. Here are 8 keys to making sure your first build is not a waste, and you are A1 from day 1

    1. Take your time. Probably the most important key to making sure your day 1 build withstands patches and an evolving meta is taking your time in the builder. Take the time to look at different builds, different combination of attributes/badges, and how you can maximize it.

Iโ€™ve spent countless hours around some of the best players and teams in 2K the last few years. Here are the 6 keys to a successful team:

    2. Use your resources. To want to make sure your day 1 build makes it through the end of the year, you need to know the builder and badge/animation thresholds. Thankfully, there is a wealth of info out there. Creators do the research, use it to your advantage.

    8. Do what you want. At the end of the day itโ€™s a game. Do what you think youโ€™ll enjoy. Make a replica of your favorite player. Try to copy your irl play style. Make the same kind of build youโ€™ve made the last 7 years in a row. Itโ€™s your game and your money, enjoy it.

    4. Know your game again. Whatever game mode you choose can determine what stats you need. Park players donโ€™t need free throw. 1 on 1 players donโ€™t need passing. Optimize your build for your preferred game mode. Donโ€™t waste attributes where you wonโ€™t primarily use them.

Donโ€™t usually do this, but please keep my Dad in your prayers. He is on his way to the hospital from urgent care with chest pain and discomfort but they wonโ€™t let me in because of Covid

    3. Know your game. Are you traditionally a big? Are you someone who likes to pull up from limitless all game? Maybe youโ€™re a slasher who canโ€™t wait to use HOF Bulldozer? Whatever you prefer, cater towards that for your first player. You can make other builds later.

    5. Know your teammates. If you donโ€™t have a team this still applies. If your friends are all slashers, maybe make a shooter. If your friends like to dribble, consider a center who can play off them. If you know youโ€™ll be playing with randoms, youโ€™ll want to be balanced.

    7. Be able to shoot. This ties in to knowing your team, but nobody has ever said their squad needs less shooting. Even if you end up not taking advantage of it, that flexibility letโ€™s your build fit into many more possible lineups than a non shooter.
