    My dad passed away this week. He was a kind, decent and wicked smart man, who chose to live his life with an unwavering and at times pathological optimism, believing unconditionally in the value and potential of public service. We can learn a lot from him.

    If Google/Meta were genuine re their preference for a journalism fund they could simply set one up now, make it maximally inclusive & transparent, & align it with the exemption criteria in C18. Or they could block access to news in a PR fight aimed squarely at an int'l audience.
