The fact that this rice cooker worked for 25+ years of constant usage without fail makes me want to praise its engineers -- and the fact that the new model is identical to the old suggests they knew they got it right.

- Per the Economist, Elon Musk has failed to cut any spending, now at $30 billion / day (was $26 /day last year). DOGE is just a werid mixture a scapegoat ritual mixed with institutional vandalism by overgrown teenagers
- If I recall correctly, the point of a primary is to settle divisions and unite the party around its democratically chosen candidate.
- My children have taken the replacement of our family rice cooker (with an exact replica) more seriously than I had anticipated
- Watching Elon Musk decide to play investigative reporter has made me think that the tradition of aging rich men spending all their time and money racing yachts actually had an important function
- This may be an unpopular post, but I think we need to realize that using undemocratic means to fight candidate Trump increases the odds of losing democracy itself
- The Tiktok shutdown is such a farce. The firm didn't actually need to shut down, but is doing so to allow Trump to "rescue" Tiktok when he takes office (90 day statutory pause) and make some kind of lousy deal and declare victory. Very weak stuff
- Sick of this Administration making so many people jobless or and poorer and calling it good for us
- Harvard Crimson piece on Larry Summers is a must read
- When Zephyr and I ran against Cuomo and Hochul a big part of their strategy was trying to depict us as anti-semites -- so glad to see that fail today
- One big difference between science and economics is that in science, obsolete theories are discarded
- I always disagreed with Larry Summers in matters of substance, but looks like I can add morality and ethics to that listI don't know about this Larry Summers guy...
- While many facts missjng, more I look more I doubt the proposed PGA - LIV merger will survive serious antitrust scrutiny, not to mention potential CFIUS review. The champagne was popped prematurely (and reporters should have been more careful with their use of the past tense)
- The pivot to Russia has the distinction of being both evil and irrational. Russia has a piddly economy (smaller than Canada's) & has been a mostly irrelevant trading partner, esp compared to Europe/Canada/Mexico. Making everyone in the world hate us isn't free.
