Enzo Maresca imposing his Positional Methodology at Chelsea. - Don't run to where the ball is. - Maintain your positions, stay in your positions. Positionist logic like this is an extremely powerful coaching tool. Hopefully more and more people are understanding how it works.

Kompany gets it. Here he’s clearly able to distinguish between the type of player who thrives in a Positional system (KDB) and one who prefers a more Relational approach (Hazard). KDB has abstract plans ordered in his head, Hazard feels his way through the chaos of the moment.

I don’t really have words for how incredible this game was. Pure football in a pressure cooker Maracana. It had everything-the good, the bad and the ugly. And a deserving winner. I’m so happy for all the players and staff who dare to play-and win!-their own way. Parabens!!⚽️❤️🏆

Bielsa’s Uruguay v Diniz’ Brazil in a World Cup Qualifier in Montevideo on October 18th. This has the potential to be game of the year. And it’s the perfect example of why having radically different, diverse tactical interpretations makes football so compelling.

The main issue I have with Positionism is the idea that it is somehow the ‘correct’ way to play possession football. Here John Muller describes the symmetry and uniformity of Spain’s play as ‘perfection’. Maybe John simply means it is perfect Positionism, not perfect football.
