I spoke with the brilliant @KristinLauter who leads @AIatMeta FAIR Labs North America about
- elliptic curve cryptography
- cryptographic protocols
- ML on encrypted data
- attacking post-quantum cryptography with AI
I admire her work a lot, so this was an honor. Enjoy!
I spoke with @judyefan about her work on cognitive tools and how we use physical representations of thought to learn, communicate, and problem solve — and how her approach to scientific inquiry has developed over time. Enjoyed this a lot 🙂
@gradientpub is one of my favorite podcasts. Daniel Bashir is an extremely knowledgeable interviewer. The recent episode on bounded rationality with David Thorstad was great!
"The deepest ideas come from studying simple stuff, and the most impactful ideas are the deepest ones" — @pfau on why work on Geomancer and manifold factorization isn't finished yet
I spoke with @Philip_Goff about how panpsychism helps explain consciousness, hybrid cosmopsychism, and the "post-Galilean" science of consciousness he's recently advocated for
I spoke with @pfau about deep learning for computational quantum mechanics, (projective) representation theory + manifold factorization, TD learning in the brain, and mostly not AGI
The reality of AI hype is that there is little market for podcasts that are actually skeptical of the hype.. you get viewers and clicks by leaning into the hype.
There is no money in teaching people to be skeptical of their beliefs and oodles in the confirmation bias gig..
I think I’ve recommended The Chinese Typewriter and The Chinese Computer to nearly everyone I know—it was an incredible joy to speak with @tsmullaney about his work and how he thinks about himself as a scholar and historian.
