- Friend of mine is visiting the UK for the first time in a few years. His verdict:
- The fact that people think expanses of monoculture grass are "nature" is genuinely sad. We have destroyed England's ancient woods and meadows and driven the species that live in them to the margins.This is what the English 'countryside', as seen from a train, looks like. Because it's green, I guess things look good. But look how empty of wildlife it is. Not a single bird visible. Not one. Massive swathes of our 'countryside' are just devoid of animals.
