30 years ago to date, I sent my acceptance to @MITChemE for PhD. Little did I know that I would end up in Bob Langer’s lab. Bob’s mentorship has been a gift of a lifetime. Grad students: find an advisor whose mentorship is not limited to research and doesn’t end with graduation.

How long of a delay is ok between finishing the work and submitting the manuscript? Here’s a note that I sent to my group in 2019 outlining my thoughts #AcademicTwitter @JHElisseeff @KrishRoyLab @McKeegan_Kelli

When our trainees get ready to leave the lab to start their independent academic journey, they often ask me for advice on how to advise students. I tell them that the following four principles have guided me in my own advising journey @hseas @wyssinstitute

Prospective grad students looking to finalize your decisions: Do spend time talking to your potential future lab mates. These were some of my wonderful lab mates during my PhD. Lab mates are as important as the advisor in ensuring a great PhD experience @wyssinstitute @hseas

Drug and Delivery are ‘what’ and ‘how’ of therapeutic products. Without knowing ‘what’, ‘how’ is irrelevant. And without answering ‘how’, ‘what’ is not possible. Check out an overview of the evolution of drug delivery technologies over the years nature.com/articles/s4155…

T cells are focused & trainable, but can’t access many sites. Macrophages have amazing access, but they have their own agenda and are tough to train. That’s why we put backpacks on macrophages to train them to attack cancer and other diseases #STATMadness @wyssinstitute @hseas

Happy Entrepreneur’s Day! My childhood role models. My grandma started an accounting biz for pharmacy stores in 1940’s and my mom started a soap business from home in 1980’s for hospitals. Neither had a formal scientific training for biz, but had a great drive and people skills.
