My daddy had opened a laundromat and put my momma through law school. My brother bought my SIL a brand new house as his wedding gift. My BIL regularly balls out on my sister. Don’t tell me my standards are unrealistic when the men closest to me are doing these things.

Alot of men love the idea of a highly educated woman on paper. It’s an ego and status booster. Many are not emotionally equipped to deal with one.

Folks are so accustomed to (and expect) Black women and girls being in positions of struggle and labor, that seeing them being “spoiled” is a huge issue.

Being yourself either makes people feel at home or hyper-aware of how they don’t be themselves.
